I know I am going to refer to this book over and over again. My favorite tip is to use spring clothes pins to keep stitches from twisting when joining a circular knit project…genius!

Lily Chin must have been looking over my shoulder when she wrote this! She’s tackled all the most common tricks I needed (and some not-so-common)and agreed tips that will help ALL knitters! This is her long-awaited book for “the rest of us,” and it was well worth the wait! I’m delighted with it!

I have been reading through this brilliant book. Her tips on swatches alone is well worth the fee of the book. I had not thought about how wool, cotton etc. can stretch when worn and the tip to hang the swatch to check for stretching is brilliant. She goes on to clarify in fantastic detail how to hang, measure and figure out how much yarn is needed if you are trying to design a sweater of your own with a favorite stitch of yours as a replacement for of the stitch of the pattern. I judge I would would be successful in crafty a sweater now. I have a lot of stitches that I want to try in a sweater. I judge now I would be successful using her method and directions. While reading through the book I feel like she is in the room talking to me in a way that I can know. She is so straight forwards with her directions. You can tell she has helped many people and understands how to clarify things to them.
Thanks Lily for the book I will be carrying it with me on every project.

I read this in one sitting. It’s very simple to know and it gives fixes for many mistakes that I permanently thought I would have to rip out and re-do to right, such as incorrectly crossed cables. There were a lot of “why didn’t I reflect of that?” tips as well, such as going and getting one skein only of the yarn you’d like to use for a project, then using a grid to figure out how many of your swatches it would take to make a sweater the size you want and using that information to figure out how much yarn to buy. Thus, you are able to get what you need all at once in one dye lot. You don’t run fleeting and you don’t end up with skeins you don’t need that you can’t return because they’ve been wound into balls.
While there was a lot of information in there I already knew, in nearly every section, there was at least one method of doing something or resolving a problem that was new to me.
I normally check knitting books out at the library to determine if I want to buy them. I don’t typically buy crafting books if I’m not going to use them repeatedly. Frankly, even if I never crack this book again as I’ve now read through the whole thing, I’m pleased to have bought it as Chin deserves the royalties.
