Product Description
Juliet. She’s one-half of the world’s most legendary couple, whose enduring legend draws millions of visitors to Verona every year. But that’s only part of the tale. Since the 1930s, Juliet has received an untold number of letters from writers all over the world. Most of the missives talk of like, of course—like establish and like lost, like sought and like remembered. They may be written by teenagers in the throes of a first crush or struggling with parental censure. They may be from adults celebrating a hard-won like or wrestling with commitment. They come by the truckload, in nearly every imaginable language—composed on ornate stationery, scrawled on loose-leaf, or scribbled on whatever scraps were handy. Frequently addressed simply, “Juliet, Verona,” all of these letters reach their destination and, amazingly enough, all of them receive an answer.
Letters to Juliet is the tale of these letters and the volunteers who have been answering them for more than 70 years—volunteers who first acted privately, and who are now sanctioned by the city of Verona to answer thousands of letters each year as part of the Juliet Club. Perfect with selected letters, this romantic and poetic book also contains the history behind Shakespeare’s tale and the monuments that fuel the legend. Utterly unique and magical, Letters to Juliet is perfect for anyone who’s ever felt the pangs of like.

This book was appealing, a contemporary view with loads of past content. For persons who like to travel, or travel through reading, you should delight in this quick read. Probably more feminine interest overall, but positive, light reading. – BJ from NJ

I loved this book it was very informative about Verona, Italy and I loved learning about the first Secretaries of Juliet. The pictures were gorgeous and the letters made me both weep and laugh. I don’t weep very regularly but I could sense the urgency and pleading in the letters. I reflect writing to juliet even knowing it is not juliet replying but her secretary of the Club De Juliet, it is like being stuck somewhere with a weirder you tend to tell them anything and everything. Because you know you will never see them again. Writing letters to Juliet is a way to talk to a name about your deep feelings and you are better at it because you feel more confidant knowing you will not have to face the person your writing to. The book was lovely I definetly desire to write to Juliet. I recommend this book and I recommend writing to Juliet (Verona, Italy). That is all I have to say I like it, Like it, Like it!!

The book documents the history of Romeo and Juliet in the city of Verona, Italy, from the Middle Ages. A map shows where the dwellings of Romeo and Juliet would have been. The text describes the history of the society, called the Juliet Club, that has maintained the medieval character of the city and that has answered the thousands of letters from people around the world who have written to Juliet about the hopes and chance of like. The book was a gift. Inside the book is a piece of imprinted paper and an envelope on which a reader can write a personal letter to Juliet (and receive a answer to it) as well as a recipe for ‘Baci di Giulietta’.

The right tale of the letters that are sent to the most romantic of all Shakespeare’s heroines. This book book eloquently covers the men and women that have made Juliet’s passion come to life for so many people around the world. It contains a brief history of how the letter writing started, where it is now, and the like affair that Verona, Italy showers on its legendary lady. Included are many of the letters written over time to her and some of the responses.
