Product Description
“Forty-four percent of the American population is convinced that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead sometime in the next fifty years,” writes Sam Harris. “Imagine the consequences if any significant component of the U.S. government really believed that the world was about to end and that its ending would be glorious. The fact that nearly half of the American population rumor has it that believes this, purely on the basis of religious dogma, should be considered a moral and intellectual urgent situation.” In response to his award-winning bestseller The End of Faith, Sam Harris received thousands of letters from Christians excoriating him for not believing in God. Letter to A Christian Nation is his courageous and controversial answer. Using rational argument, Harris offers a measured repudiation of the beliefs that form the core of fundamentalist Christianity. Addressing current topics ranging from intelligent design and stem-cell research to the relations between religion and violence, Letter to a Christian Nation boldly challenges the influence that faith has on American public life.

I’m judging this book by its title. It looks stupid, by some leader trying to make a buck stirring the pot.

Let’s talk about the heart of the matter here with regards to Christianity. Jesus Lives… can additional faiths say the same about their god? No additional God on planet came to live and die on the Holy Cross of Calvary and then resurrect to further spread the Excellent News.
No additional god has died for every imaginable sin and carried it on His back to the slaughter. It is prophetic, this persecution and mockery against persons that judge in Jesus. Scripture lists this prophesy time and time again:
Job 17:2 Surely mockers surround me my eyes must dwell on their lack of sympathy.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
Proverbs 1:22 ‘How long will you simple ones like your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools despise knowledge?
Proverbs 3:34 He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble. Proverbs 19:29 Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
Proverbs 29:8 Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away rage.
Isaiah 29:20 The ruthless will vanish, the mockers will disappear, and all who have an eye for evil will be cut down-
Hosea 7:5 On the day of the festival of our king the princes become inflamed with wine, and he joins hands with the mockers.
As I read this book to my spouse, he looked at me quietly and said to me after seeing my sadness: It is these people (referring to Harris) that the Lord has called us to like- despite it all.
I know that there are plenty of people who will continue to place God in a box (these are the intellectuals)and will want to fit Him into their scheme of things but God wouldn’t be God if he was that tiny…
I know Harris likes himself and demonstrates the epitomy of narcissism in his propaganda. But the truth is, he will one day know the faults of his stinging attacks against Christians, humanity, and persons that fervently judge in truth.
I also grieve, like many unbelievers, when I see a Christian, a person after the heart of the Lord, commit a moral failure… it only proves what we keep hearing from the world: Christians aren’t perfect. This I know full well. But it is because of this truth that keeps us apart from the Lord, thus the reason for Jesus’ birth.
I have to judge a loving, merciful, and yes, jealous God exists for this reason and because I see so much depravity, so much immorality in this world.
How many crimes go unpunished in this world?
I have to judge that although man in all his faults, injustice, and sin will allow for criminals to walk free, there must be an Almighty judge who sees all things, and will give persons their due reward.
Harris’ rant is what it is: a piece of information from a broken, shattered heart that can only be redeemed by the One. Remember that all things will be revealed… in His time.
I recommend these books:
The Bible, New King James version.
Joni Eareckson Tada’s ‘When God Weeps’, for persons that want to know why God sent His innocent son to die for us all.
‘Like Beyond Reason’ by John Ortberg, for persons that continue to marvel how God sees us in this broken world.

Nothing special here, just the standard atheist diatribe from a man who only studies and quotes scripture in order to attack it, not know it.

Probably the best answer to the shallow, loaded and threadbare opinion of the ancient and new atheists (Harris, Dawkins and their ilk) is the following quote from a recent essay by Kabir Helminski:
“In the whole history of human thoughts, the thought of the Divine is the greatest thought ever conceived. Even if it could be proved that no God exists, then the mere concept of a Being who is essential like, guidance, mercy, generosity, beauty, and consciousness would stand as the most
remarkable achievement of the human soul. To conceive of such a Divinity and then to yearn and strive to be more like that Divinity in unconditional like, in forgiveness, in generosity, in mercy, has uplifted human beings. In particular, the mystics, the real lovers of God, have
translated this yearning into a practical methodology, way of life, and even a culture of like.
But some might say religions have fought wars over their thoughts of the Divine. Yes, it may be right that humans have coerced, oppressed, and slaughtered in the name of God, but this is just the reflection of human egotism projected upon a concept of the Divine. Human beings have a remarkable capacity to turn their imaginary God into a deity as vindictive, cruel, narrow-minded, and oppressive as themselves. But this is not what we are talking about at all.
What is infinitely more vital is the reflection of the Thought of the Divine upon the human soul. This Holy Thought has enabled human beings to try to forgive the harms done to them, to act with selfless generosity, to bear hardship with patience, and to wish to unconditional like.
If this were merely a concept of a creature that had evolved out of the slime of being, it would be astounding enough. If such a being could really be convinced of the Reality of its concept and become radiant with persons very qualities, wouldn’t this be a most remarkable
achievement?”

LETTER TO SAM HARRIS
Since the publication of my articles detailing the Alliance of Civilizations, many people have written to tell me that I am incorrect to judge in God. The most hostile of these communications come from persons recommending I read Sam Harris’ and Richard Dawkins books. This is ironic as Sam Harris claims to be a loving and charitable person. The truth is that persons right believers (evidently in nothing) are deeply intolerant of criticism. While we may want to ascribe this to their own human scenery, it is clear that their hatred and intolerance of God in all-purpose and Christians in particular draw considerable support from the books of Sam Harris. How do I know this? The most disturbed of my correspondents permanently cite chapter and page.
There is a “God delusion”, alright. The God delusion is this: “There is no God” A concomitant delusion is that one goes to Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins for “wisdom”. I would recommend an “end of faith” – that is, an end of faith in Sam Harris to give you the solutions to the problems of the universe!
At least, Sam Harris has verified my thesis that there is an ongoing war on religion in all-purpose and monotheistic religions of Jews, Christians, and Moslems in particular. I thank him for lending credibility and documentation to what was obviously out there, but not as blatantly articulated.
