Les Misérables (translated variously from French as The Miserable Ones, The Wretched, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor, The Victims) is a novel by French leader Champion Hugo, and among the best-known novels of the 19th century.
It follows the lives and interactions of several French characters over a twenty year period in the early 19th century that includes the Napoleonic wars and subsequent decades. Examining the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean, who seeks to redeem himself, the novel also examines the impact of Valjean’s actions for the sake of social commentary.
English translation by Isabel F. Hapgood.

It was fantastic. Actors were fantastic. I did not want the tale to end.

It does place out some detail from the book. That is to be expected from a 1400+ book made into a three hour book on CD. But, for being as fleeting as it is, it does a fantastic job of getting accross most of the thoughts from the book. Les Meserables is an incredible book. Everyone should read or listen to it.

For persons of you that have never read Les Miserables or seen a production of it, this is a fabulous version to buy. You’ll learn for yourself why this tale is a classic and why it has touched so many hearts and lives over the years.
I reflect all of the Focus on the Family tree Radio Theatre productions are at least 4-star, but this one is one of the best. It’s nearly treacherous to drive listening to this one as it is very simple to become engrossed in Valjean’s struggles and the eternal themes of justice and mercy, like and grace.
This tale permanently makes me weep. I delight in listening to this at least once a year. The only thing that would make it better is having it longer (unabridged perhaps).

What a fantastic car ride we have had with our kids who insist on listening to this each time we go on trip! I borrowed it from our neighbors for a couple of years and now I have our own copy. I’m sure our kids will talk about this when they are grown. They like it and we do too!

WOW. Is there a five plus star rating that I can choose? This Radio Theatre version of Les Miserable is fabulous. The quality of everything Focus on the Family tree Radio Theatre does is sky-high. The acting, sound effects, storyline production, … all fabulous. This is not a musical version. You should hear their three-part version of “Incredible Grace”, the tale of William Wilburforce who nearly single-handedly saw to it that slavery was abolished in Fantastic Brittain. Wow.
