Product Description
Mining her rich Persian heritage with dry wit and a bold spirit, Firoozeh Dumas puts her own unique mark on the themes of family tree, community, and tradition. Explaining crossover cultural food fare, Dumas says, “The weirdest American culinary marriage is yams with melted marshmallows. I don’t know who thought of this Prayer tradition, but I’m guessing a hyperactive, toothless three-year-ancient.” On Iranian wedding anniversaries: “It just initially seemed odd to celebrate the day that ‘our families chose we should marry even though I had never met you, and frankly, it’s not effective out so well.’ ” Dumas also documents her first year as a new mother, the experience of taking fifty-one family tree members on a birthday cruise to Alaska, and a road trip to Iowa with an American once held hostage in Iran. Droll, moving, and significant, Laughing Lacking an Accent shows how our differences can unite us–and provides quick proof that Firoozeh Dumas is a humorist of the highest order.

The Iranian culture is one of the world’s oldest and richest. Although the people of Iran should NEVER be equated with the government of Iran which is a regime based on terror of its own citizens and courageous sons, daughters and children. The regime holding the power in Iran which is the government of Iran IS EVIL AND INHUMANE and must be exposed and brought down from power. Iranian people question the free people of the world not to EVER confuse the humanity and fruitfulness of the Iranian people and their culture with that of the Iranian government. It permanently makes it so depressing when you read such naive assessment of the facts mainly because the free people of the world simply cannot distinguish the difference between a people and the regime that holds them hostage to its ambitions and goals at any cost. Please do not humanize the Iranian regime since it give it the legitimacy it craves for in order to suppress its own citizens further more with no bring shame on and hence it allows publishing of such fantastic books and authors knowing it would a boost in its image. Please do more of deeper thinking into all of this!

“Laughing lacking an Accent” is not reasonably as humorous as Dumas’ first book, “Amusing in Farsi.” Even so, it’s well worth reading. Having lived a couple years in Iran, I suppose the book is more amusing to me than a name who’s never been in that country. Even so, it’s hard for me to judge that anyone would not find this book a fantastic read.

As in her first book “Amusing in Farsi” Firoozeh Dumas is successful in representing differences and commonalities between different cultures . The book is simple to read and would be a nice gift to multicultural teenagers or people interested in multicultural upbringings.

This book is simple to read and amusing. You can go through it honestly quick even for a name like me who is not a reader. It’s written in fleeting tales and each tale does not have anything to do with the tales before . It’s a excellent choice for smal trips, waiting in Dr’s office or even sleepless nights.
Delight in. The book helps to picture the life of imigrants, what they went through, the changes they had made and changes they had brought with them into US from 70 till now. If you are looking for exciting tales, this is not a book for you additional than that it’s nice.
