As Charlotte drew closer to the looming grey edifice that was to become her temporary home, she could not help but notice the secretive shuttered windows. Then she noticed the milkweeds….
Even a proper vicar’s daughter can make a mistake–and now Charlotte Lamb must pay a high fee for her fall. To avoid the prying eyes of all who know her, she hides herself away in London’s forbidding “Milkweed Manor,” a place of mystery and lore, of ancient secrets and new birth.
But once there, she comes face to face with a suitor from her past–a man who now hides secrets of his own. Both are determined, with God’s help, to protect persons they like. But neither can imagine the depth of sacrifice that will be required.
Sprinkled with fascinating details about the lives of women in Regency England, Lady of Milkweed Manor is a moving romantic drama about the redemption of past failings and the beauty of sacrificial like.

While the storyline was appealing, I really didn’t want to read this much detail about being a wet nurse. It just seemed awkward, trying to make a PG-13 tale read like a PG book. It’s really not appropriate for younger teens, unless they want to be midwife!

I only puchased this as a gift, and can only comment on the value, service, and condition of the book. All of these were brilliant which is why I will continue to use amazon as my primary buy medium on the internet.

I was looking so forwards to this book, as this was a new leader and I do so like finding new (to me) authors … but to me this was an extremely depressing book, and I read for happiness. I don’t expect the books to only have happiness in them, but my goodness so much sadness! This book was just overfilled with it … more and more sadness, piled on … yes, it had some excellent past information that I did delight in learning. I am also realistic enough to know that there is a lot of unhappiness in this world, but over and over once again it just seemed a bit much for me … it took clear until the very last chapter only to find out that she did find happiness but we did not get to find that out until the synopsis at the end. I am glad that it did end well but it was just to weighty for me.
Sadly, this young girl, Charlotte, finds herself in a very hard position as a young girl in the 18th century, unmarried, pregnant, with a very unforgiving father and sadly a self-serving sister. She, then is alienated by her whole family tree and also the man who is the father of her baby. She finds herself taken out of a a very influential family tree and dumped into a very poor group home. Where you have to admire her spirit as she adjusts to all of this, I find myself having a tough time with the fact that this book is just so dismally depressing. She meets a young doctor, whom she really had known from her previous life, whose wife is suffering from maniac tendencies while pregnant. I won’t give away the plot here but there is just so much unhappiness. It wasn’t until the final chapter that one finds out that there was a pleased outcome to this tale and then to me it ends very abuptly. It seems like the whole book that went on and on with so much sadness has their full life summed up in just a few pages. I reflect if it had gone on a really folllowed their lives to some extent and one had establish some of that happiness through this book, I would have certainly loved the book ever so much more, as I did like both the main characters.
The book was well written, and I do plot on reading the additional book by this leader that I have already bought, just not immediately. I really feel very terrible about this review, obviously I am in the minority here with my opinion. I have agreed this review a LOT of thought and I cannot in excellent conscience write anything else for in my opinion this was not an enjoyable book and I read for my enjoyment! I realize that there was a lot of truisms in this book and I have no problem with persons, in fact, even though I have to admit where I was shocked in part with some of them, I did appreciate the the factual information and understood the leader’s need to add the information in this book. I just wish she had interspersed this book with some happiness. I have read additional books that I have loved immensely that I have sobbed my way through the entire book, but this was obviously not one of persons … for some reason where it made me sad it did not reach me that way to where I could delight in it as well. But, again … I am obviously in the minority! I have struggled with this review as I prefer to give as positive of a review as I can but, of course, at the same time being honest … I just cannot in full honesty in my opinion give it more than 2 stars as it was not a book I loved. I did end it, as I did like the characters, but I was not pleased as I did not delight in it while reading it.

This book was incredible! The tale takes so many turns. It bounces back and into the world from her wants to what she knows is right, until the two finally come together in the end. Miss Lamb is a stand up, intricate woman, perceived as shameful and simple by society. But persons who truly know her get to see otherwise…as do we. i certainly recommend this one! You’ll be finished in two days, or less!
