Product Description
A bento box meal (single parts of different foods packed in one reusable container) is a Japanese tradition that lends itself well to today’s busy lifestyle. Although bento boxes are available to take out from restaurants and food stands, they are most frequently prepared at home, very regularly by parents wishing to provide their children with tasty, healthy, fun–and environmentally reliable–lunch and snack-time alternatives.
Kawaii Bento Boxes offers dozens of recipes and menus. For each box, the authors include detailed instructions for cooking, seasoning, decorating and assembling the components as well as an icon indicating how long it will take to prepare. The meals are not just simple to make, they are tasty, nutritious and economical, with each part carefully calculated so that there are no leftovers. There are also suggestions for the right container for each meal. Most of the ingredients used are familiar and available to American cooks. Here are whimsical creations like soccer balls and animal faces made from shaped rice, tulips cut from dyed hardboiled eggs, hearts and stars carved out of vegetables, and much more. Perfect for parents looking to liven up their children’s school lunches or park food and drink, or for busy people who want to fix a quick and cheerful meal to take to work, Kawaii Bento Boxes highlights the Japanese passion for building food a treat for the eyes as well as for the mouth.

Though I haven’t ever seen a copy of this book in person, it has already momentously improved my Bento technique. I have been building box lunches for my fiancĂ© since he went back to college this fall. Inspired by many blogs and websites, I’ve been slowly moving away from the “PBJ+apple in a brown bag” he got on his first day. Just reading the free sample pages here on Amazon brought about dramatic improvements, to the point where my fiancĂ© called me in the middle of the day to question why his lunch was suddenly so awesome. This book is on my wishlist right now, (in college=in poverty) and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy so I can improve my lunches even further. If you are a beginner Bento maker like myself, then this book is for you! I reflect even an veteran person could find excellent inspiration here.

I really delight in the color-coded section in the back because they’re really quick and simple and offer you a chance to make your own bento box as a replacement for of the ones offered!

This book is fantastic. It is filled with cute and tasty looking recipes, and gives simple step-by-step instructions on how to make tasty dishes. The only downside is that a few ingredients might be new to persons not familiar with Japanese style cooking. Additional than that, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to make very cute bentos
