This book has so much incorrect with it it’s hard to know where to start. It’s littered with typos. Sentences occasionally start and don’t end. There are lots of lousy diagrams. What’s more insidious is the plethora of scientific errors. It claims that cells are about 4 inches across. At least anyone reading the book will immediately see that’s ridiculous and not be led astray. Many of the additional errors are less obvious, and will trip you up.
This might all be excusable if this was a new book that had just been written. Maybe then we could assume that Kaplan had made an honest effort to place out a excellent book, and some errors had slipped through. Maybe we could assume that they’d fix them later. This is not right. They keep printing the exact same book year after year, and they don’t fix one thing. They must know it’s a piece of rubbish. They just don’t care.
If this is the quality of the work that their central office puts out, I quiver to reflect what the slack-jawed mouth-breathers in their test prep centers are like.

The Kaplan book does what it says it will do. It is a excellent review book, but if you haven’t had any of the science sections in a while it will not be enough to refresh your memory. Overall, I would reccomend this book.

This book is excellent, but it’s deficient in many respects. The reviews of the different theme matter aren’t that fantastic. You still need to refer to many additional books if you’re going to get ready. I would say this book is a excellent starting point, but should not be relied on exclusively to prepare for the MCAT.

on the surface, this seems to be a fantastic book for MCAT preparation. but, it is RIDDLED with significant errors in content. i’m not talking about grammatical type-os, but errors in the information it provides as “background” to help you prepare to take the exam. the major problem with this is that i only have expertise enough to identify these errors in the biology section. how then can i trust the information in chemistry and physics??? kaplan needs to seriously edit this book, otherwise it’s just a series of practice exams (which are helpful). at this point, i’m back to using ancient textbooks, rather than the content that i paid for in this book.

I’m not using this book only for content review, Really, it’s a backup for content review. This is a review book. If you struggled with the theme matter when you took the class, get another book to help you out.
but, the resources that comes with this book is worth it’s fee on amazon. The online resources, quizzes, fleeting videos, practice exams are worth it. You can use their online syllabus which will help you with a personalized study plot if you want.
It’s got’s lot’s of diagrams to help you out. There’s the mcat synopsis boxes on pages to highlight some of the vital stuff. They also offer free live online events when you use your book code to register online and you can get to interact with their people and question questions and what not.
What i like most in addition to the exams is the colored MCAT study sheets at the end. I just saw them today and i just like it. They have 6 sheets (double sided) for all 4 subjects with the meat and potatoes on there – formulas and what nots. It’s been a while since i took the basic classes so while i’m using a detailed review but i’m finding that even that doesn’t take in everything. Kaplan does a excellent job as a complementary study aid and for the copious holes it’s filled in for areas where my additional sets of books that i spent more money on doesn’t take in. Kaplan really covers persons topics as well. So far, i haven’t establish any errors in the gen chem or ochem section. I know the january 30th mcat this year had stuff on evolution and additional minor topics from bio 2 that most people don’t focus on and i’m pleased kaplan does a excellent number on persons topics. Everyone swears the berkeley review is the most comprehensive review for gen chem. Well, i used that and i didn’t know how to calculate the theoretical yield afterwards (i used to be a chem whiz years ago). I used kaplan and 3 seconds later, i was able to go back to a question in their topical and calculate that. also, kaplan covered most of the things in the berkeley review first chapter. less examples but the info was right there.
Just remember the mcat is not just about memorizing formulas. you need to know the concepts. I have the examkrackers perfect package along with the 1001s and audio osmosis and i reflect their bio is fantastic,I reflect they emphasize concepts a lot more.EK has content review with in-class problems and the 30minute exam after every chapter. Kaplan has worked examples in the chapter which if you’re the type who needs step by step guidance, will help a lot. It doesn’t have the 30minute exams after each chapter but it does have a practice set after each theme.kaplan has a l’il more info on most topics than examkrackers but not as much info as you’ll find in the princeton review hyperlearning books. Princeton review is for if you need more info than you’ll get in your regular class. This book works out more examples in chapter which has been very, very helpful so far.
In the nutshell, if you owned your science classes when you took the courses and need small to no review, EK is fantastic. if you need a l’il more help, kaplan is better but don’t use it alone. At least have 2 review sources so they can complement each additional. Above all, don’t forget to buy the AAMC exams 3-10 and practice them. Practice, Practice, practice. Take as many practice tests as you can. Each of the test prep companies, princeton, kaplan, gold standard offer free practice tests you can permanently take. Get the examkrackers 1001 questions book if to drill the basics down so you can know the concepts well. EK 101 on verbal is a fantastic resource as well. Hope this helps.
