most of the tactics lack sophistication
therefore, most people would detect your manipulations, thwarting your efforts
as an example, consider the crude application of “scarcity”
when supplies are low, an on-line bookstore uses this message:
“hasten! only 3 left”
it is reasonably amusing, as only the left side of the bell curve would fall for such an obvious ploy
after all, books are commodities—you can get them just about anywhere, at any time
A REALISTIC SOLUTION: motivate others with appeals to self interest
additional methods also lack effectiveness, assuming, of course, that you are dealing with people of reasonable intelligence (minimum IQ of 100…50th percentile)

If this theme is of interest, there are far better books out there. This one is so basic that perhaps it should be taught in grade school. But, if your knowledge of influence and power is beyond grade school level, then I suggest that you look for brilliant books on the theme elsewhere.

No worries for Cialdini as he sits smugly on his throne, crown and all….
The principles on this book are priceless, timeless, cop it, feel for it…let it enter you.
Sit back, and let your eyes glaze over the Classic. For excellent or evil….use it as you wish.

This book, while excellent for persons looking for narratives and the occasional bit of history, is to some extent missing when it comes to application. There are many additional -excellent- books out there on persuasion… I considered this one a vauge and confusing waste of time.

If you summarize the book into one page, you will find in it useful, but basic, information about the psychology of consummer behaviour, and you will find some blank lines in it too.
