As mentioned earlier, this book can seem to simple to knock because of its veneration by the wide eyed and uncool. I recommend this book for travel information, ie buses, trains, etc., for the first time visitor. I disrecommend it for its recommendations of hotels and eateries. India is a land overflowing with places to stay and eat, and persons mentioned in this book are full of aforementioned hordes of the ‘uncool’, and correpondingly overpriced.
I also disrecommend it because info on local points of interest place a small

The book is GORGEOUS – so informative! Our only problem now is that we have just 8 days to visit – I want to see it ALL! Descriptive to the max – Lonely Planet has done it again – for travelers, historians, or collector – this is a MUST!

the Lonely Planet guide to India is THE guide. Going to India with the Lonely Planet changed my life. It also tells you to place the guide behind and follow your intuition. I did. The result was my new book, on how to travel with your intuition and change your life. Travelling Magically: How to Turn Your Journey into a Life-Changing Experience. Reasonably a few tales about my time in India there – I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
