Fantastic read. Brubaker and Phillips have another hit series. And what’s this? An ending that is to some extent pleased?
Brubaker is one of my favorite comic book writers. If you liked this and want to get into the marvel universe lacking alternative up a dozen titles, check out his run on Captain America or Daredevil.

I have to say that I painstakingly loved this title authored by Brubaker and Phillips. The artwork and writing are top notch and gel nicely into something greater than the parts. What makes the work special though is the hint of the main character who doesn’t fall into either of the two predictable categories of characters typically establish in hero comics. He’s neither a baddie nor a hero of the predictable ilk, and that is all together so refreshing. The result is a product which is so much more believable than your predictable hero/evil doer dyanmic. I look forwards and genuinely hope that the title unfolds into more issues so that I can bear witness to this character’s future growth into himself.

This trade paperback collects the brilliant 2009 Ed Brubaker/Sean Phillips six issue “Incognito” series inspired by 1930s American pulp comics. Main character Zach Overkill is a ex- super-powered villain now stuck in a banal office job in the Witness Protection Program and forced to take drugs that inhibit his powers. His ex- boss The Black Death is an escaped convict who runs a criminal empire from his ultra-maximum security prison cell and is opposed by the quasi-governmental agency SOS. Zack is caught between these two sides when he discovers a way to regain his superpowers. Brubaker expertly weaves the cast’s backstory into the stark main narrative and keeps the reader’s interest throughout. Fans of the Brubaker and Phillips collaborations “Sleeper” or “Criminal” titles should delight in this series as excitedly as the duo’s previous collaborations.

I’ve read Brubakers run on Captain America, and it is epic. But this is a really excellent tale, with some fantastic art as well. Really unexpected and refreshing. I like it when I find something as excellent as this.
