This is not a review of the book (so mark me not-helpful if that’s all you’re looking for). I’m rating this a one along with all of the additional Kindle users who are upset by the publisher’s choice. If they do pay attention to the Amazon ratings (as some do) then this may be the only way to voice our displeasure. I highly encourage all additional Kindle users to follow suit.
I’ve never read anything from Douglas Preston but this was going to be the first… until my Kindle order attempt was shot down! Luckily for me, there are plenty of additional excellent books out there that I can read. I guess Impact by Douglas Preston will just no longer be one of them.

Well Kindle lovers, we are again cut-rate to 2nd class citizens. We don’t get first dibs on a book, now we have to wait over 4 months??? More publisher greed
So i would have downloaded this book now, as a replacement for, i’ll order from the library! Fantastic work, you just saved me $9.99

I like reading Preston and Child, but I will cancel my order for this book on Kindle. This is rediculous. My wife just got it on hold from the library and read it in two days it was so excellent. We still have two weeks left on the book, so guess what? I will be reading the library copy. Another customer lost.

I would have downloaded this book on the day it came out because my spouse generally likes this leader. But now that I have seen the reviews I will not bother when the publisher FINALLY decides that it is time for us to have a chance at it. Chalk up one lost sale to the retro paradigm.

I am rating Amazon, Douglas Preston and the book’s publisher with one star. Today is January 8, 2010. I just left Costco where the hardbound edition of Impact by Douglas Preston was resting comfortably on the rack waiting to be bought. As usual, I rushed home to buy this book and another new book by T. Jefferson Parker that are just out on my Kindle. I successfully downloaded the Parker book, but when I searched and establish the Preston book it is on pre-order. That has happened more regularly than not lately, and I have accepted the few weeks of waiting for the digital version. BUT! The Preston pre-order is for MAY 4, 2010 which is four months away! By then my friends will have read and spoiled the book for me, and/or I will have forgotten the darn book exists. Since Mr. Preston, unlike Mr. Parker, appears that stingy (and his last book was mediocre), I will simply pass on this book. That is more of a loss, Mr. Publisher, than quick Kindle relief!Impact
