Four famed ’60s radicals are gunned down at long range by a sniper. Under enormous media scrutiny, the FBI quickly concludes that Marine war hero Carl Hitchcock, whose ninety-three kills were considered the leading body count tally among American marksman in Vietnam, was the shooter. But as the Bureau, led by Special Agent Nick Memphis, bears down, Hitchcock commits suicide. In closing out the investigation, Nick discovers a case made in heaven: everything fits, from timeline, ballistics, and forensics to motive, means, and opportunity. Maybe it’s a small too perfect.
Nick questions his friend, the retired Marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger, to examine the data. Using a skill set no additional man on planet possesses, Swagger soon discovers unseen anomalies and gradually starts to unravel a sophisticated conspiracy — one that would require the highest level of warcraft by the most superb special operations professionals. As Swagger penetrates the deepest secrets of the sniper world and its new equipment, Nick stands firm in the face of hardball PR initiatives and an inflamed media calling for his disruption.
Swagger soon closes in, and persons reliable will stop at nothing to take him out. But these heavily armed men make the mistake of thinking they are hunting Bob, when he is, in fact, hunting them.
I, Sniper will satisfy Stephen Hunter’s legions of fans and win him droves of new ones with its signature blend of brilliant plotting, plain characters, razor-sharp dialogue, and extraordinary gunfights. And when Swagger and the last of his antagonists finally face each additional, reenacting a classic ritual of arms, it is clear that at times there’s nothing more necessary than a excellent man with a gun and the guts to use it.

I’ve only read the first chapter tonight in my free iKindle download, but will probably buy the book in paper as Kindle is TOO EXPENSIVE!! Whatever happened to $9.99?
But there’s a terrible typo just after dedications:

The “gun nuts” get their money’s worth as the tech side is the focus of much of the early part of this book. When the action comes, it’s better than most of the genre, but less than the best of this series. Age is an issue. The leader has gone back in time before, perhaps it is time to visit another relative. Or, can’t we find a way to get to the “sand” of the present day?

No Matter how excellent the tale paying more than ten bucks
for an electronically delivered book after paying huge bucks
for the reading contrivance is asking too much
is it a greedy leader?? who sets these prices

I really tried to snub the obvious “conservative” slant to this book. But when the hero of the book ongoing telling people he got all his news from Fox, I couldn’t stomach it any longer. I couldn’t even end the book.
There is enough ignorance on tv and in the news, but when I find it creeping into books like this, it saddens me.

This will not take very long. ?This book SUCKS. Stinks. Also, it is not very excellent or even marginally appealing.
Look. Everyone NEEDS to earn a living We commisserate, but puhleease.
There is a limit to what is acceptable and what in the bottom line of the acceptable standard.
By the way. Did I say it stinks?
Mr.Hunter,…you can STOP now. It’s OK.
I’m sure that the royalties from the earlier appealing and well written books will place a heat on the table and deer in your glass.
