Violet Redmond’s family tree and chance might be formidable and her beauty and wit matchless—but her infamous flare for mischief keeps all but the most lionhearted suitors at bay. Only Violet knows what will assuage her restlessness: a man who doesn’t bore her to tears, and a clue to the fate of her missing brother. She never dreamed she’d find both with a man whose own pedigree is far from impeccable.
“Savage” is what the women of the ton whisper about the newly styled Earl of Ardmay—albeit with shivers of pleasure. Born an English bastard, raised on the high seas, he’s on a mission to capture a notorious pirate for vengeance. But while Violet’s belief in her brother’s innocence maddens him, her courage awes him . . . and her sensuality finally undoes him. Now the man who once lost everything and the girl who has everything to lose are bound by a passion that could either end in treachery . . . or become everything they ever dreamed.

At a gala, Violet Redmond and Captain Asher “Savage” Flint a new Earl meet; with him is his first mate Lord Lavay. The Crown has assigned the sea captain to end the reign of notorious pirate Le Chat whose vessel is called Olivia, the name of the woman who broke her brother’s heart. Asher believes Violet’s missing brother Lyon is Le Chat.
Recognizing what a gypsy foretold her and what she overheard between the earl and his first mate, Violet sneaks onto Flint’s vessel as he heads to Cadiz. Flint finds his stowaway and is charmed by her sibling allegiance, but even as they fall in like he plans to insure that the pirate has no more cat lives.
The latest Pennyroyal Green past (see Like No Additional Lover) is a strong entry as like is tested and seems doomed to failure if Lyon proves to be le Chat as both lead characters judge. Quick-paced, this high seas romance is an entertaining tale as her brother whether he is the pirate or not stands between the Earl and the Lady as they are conflicted over her sibling.

Just finished this book last night, and it’s another winner by Julie Anne Long, IMO. Yes, you have to go along with some plot devices that are pretty unbelievable (like our noble heroine, a young woman, going alone by public coach, accosting a discontented sailor from the ship she wants to smuggle herself on board, bribing him to “let her take his place,” being learned within a day or so (but too far for the ship to go back which would take “days”), etc. Did I care? Well, a small, but I was willing to lock my skepticism in a box because it’s been a honestly long time since I’ve read a pirate book.
So, in spite of the childish title, I liked the plot, the hero, the heroine (not reasonably so much as the hero), the impediment between them, etc.
So, if you want a fun read, I recommend this one. It’s not the best pirate book I’ve ever read (that would be “Windflower” by the Curtises), but it’s worth the fee and the time.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t see the characters in this book the way others do. I absolutely dislike Violet with a passion. The girl is selfish, inconsiderate, self-centered – and the leader makes sure everyone knows it. She mentions it – a lot! – throughout the book – how every man falls for her, how she is “due” all the attention, how she views people as either “pets” or “servants” to her. Not my kind of character at all. If I were Asher Flint, I would have thrown her overboard from the get-go! I’m still not certain why he kept her on his ship. I like the male character, but I have no thought what he sees in this girl or why he thinks she is the greatest thing ever!
I have read a lot of Julie Anne Long’s books – and for the most part, I delight in them. But the character of Violet Redmond has ruined mny enjoyment. Not sure if I will continue to read any more books by this leader. If I read a book and I can’t like the characters – there is no enjoyment for me. So while I might be in the minority on this one, I just couldn’t let my feelings about this book keep me from writing. Hopefully, better books yet to be!

I have to confess that it took at least half the book before I ongoing to warm to the tale and to the main characters, Violet and Asher. I establish Violet to be selfish and charmless, but as the tale eventually unfolded, I warmed to the like tale. I didn’t delight in this book as as much as the previous one Like No Additional Lover (Pennyroyal Green Series) but I am really looking forwards to the tale of Olivia and Lyon.

I’ve been enjoying most of Ms. Long’s books. This is no exception. Barring some situations that must be chalked up to suspension of disbelief, this had a nice slow building like tale that felt real. No like at first sight, but a growing appreciation for another. Nice!
