Looking through the highly decorative, retro-style meal makeover flashcards in //Hungry Girl Chew the Right Thing Recipe Cards// place me in a state of post-nineties nostalgia. Ah, the decade of amusing sitcoms, knee-highs, Alicia Silverstone, MTV, and lets not forget, the world changing stout-free mentality. Okay, so creator of the Hungry Girl books and website Lisa Lillien might be a best seller, might have some creative juices, might reflect for a few people who don’t reflect for themselves, but honestly, the premise to all her recipes is more for less, not better for worse. Unless you’ve never looked at a mark or have shut your ears and hummed R&B tunes while countless television shows advertise the harmful effects of artificial ingredients and the Stone Age-ancient wisdom concerning stout, carbs and calories, then substituting nonfat hot dogs and cut-rate stout peanut butter for the real deal (or let’s try swapping processed meat for a wholesome sausage) would probably seem like edible gold. But for the majority of us bright, self-motivated human beings, nutrition is reasonably the opposite of fake ingredients and huge parts. You’re better off trusting poker cards than these!

This collection of recipes works pretty well for diabetics as well as low calorie diets. I must skip the ice cream desserts but the smoothies with ice I like. They are simple to make and the recipe book really fits in the drawer rather than my having to go to the bookshelf to seek it out amongst the additional books.

Hungry Girl has agreed us with what we eat to help us lose weight. Fantastic thoughts for substituting for privileged calorie/privileged stout foods we know and like.
