Product Description
Yes, it really works: Nicholas Boothman’s leap forwards program of “rapport by design” really does show you how to make people like you in 90 seconds or less. Now it’s available in paperback, with a newly made workbook section based on the leader’s hundreds of workshops.
Whether selling, managing, applying to college, looking for a job—or looking for a soulmate—the secret of success is connecting with additional people. Nicholas Boothman shows exactly how to make the best out of any relationship’s most critical moment—persons first 90 seconds that make up a first impression. Armed with his program, readers learn how to set up immediate trust by synchronizing voice tone and body language; the power of a Really Useful Attitude; and how to get people talking and keep them talking. He discusses eye cues, the magic of opposites attracting, and sensory preferences—some of us are Visual people, others are Kinesthetic (responding most to the sense of touch), and a few are Auditory. So when you say “I see what you mean” to a Visual, you’re really language his or her language.Amazon.com Review
The average person’s attention span lasts about 30 seconds. That means first and immediate impressions count, and huge. In this modern-day update of Dale Carnegie’s classic How to Win Friends and Influence People, ex- fashion photographer Nicholas Boothman instructs you in how to mold persons 30 seconds to your greatest advantage and connect with others at business and social functions.
Boothman, now a lecturer and licensed master practitioner of neurolinguistic programming (the art and science of how the brain affects human relations), says that the key to building others like you quickly lies in establishing a rapport: you have to find out what you have in common or, if you seemingly have nothing in common, purposely try to become like the additional person for a fleeting time. He then goes on to offer simple techniques for getting a rapport going: adopt a positive attitude; make sure your words, tone, and gestures are all adage the same thing; synchronize your attitude and body movements to persons of another person’s (which makes the person feel comfortable with you–although he or she may not know why); and question lots of open-finished questions. Boothman also describes how to figure out a weirder’s privileged sense for getting information about the world–some rely on visual cues, others on auditory or kinesthetic (touch) input–and use it to your best advantage.
If learning how to connect with others is the secret to business and life success, as Boothman contends, then employing the strategies in this book will make you straight away likeable and give you a leg up on the competition. –Nancy Monson

Will this book help make you a more well loved person? I suppose the basic flaw of any self-help book is that the reader can readily adopt the program of a book and find the on-ramp to the Highway of Success. The first two sections of this book amount to small more than common sense in dealing with additional people. The final section, but, gives some fascinating insight into establishing rapport using Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Boothman writes persuasively enough, but gives nearly nothing in the way of levelheaded scientific evidence for his program (At one point, he really says, “In my opinion, and it has no scientific basis additional than my close enough acquaintanceships with more than 35 couples . . .”). He also offers the surprising revelation that couples with successful relationships share not the primary sensory inclination but the secondary one, yet gives small in the way of how to determine this secondary inclination in others. One might also marvel how to deal with seriously hard people, skilled manipulators, or more than one individual at a time. Perhaps in a sequel. Still, this is better than most of what passes for self-help advice.
REVISED VIEWPOINT: I’ve recently read a few books on autism and Asperger’s Syndrome which revealed, among additional things, that persons afflicted do not respond to body language or voice tone, unlike most people, who use persons as the primary means of determining a person’s intention. I also recently read John Philpin and Patricia Sierra’s novel TUNNEL OF NIGHT (Philpin is a forensic psychologist, criminal profiler, and right-crime writer) in which it is stated that sociopaths who are aware of Neuro-Linguistic Programming can sabotage it to deceive others. I’m downgrading my rating from 4 stars to 2 stars.

“It seems like the meaner kids are , the more friends they have.” She is twelve and does not have a mean bone in her body. So, I guess that is the way to make friends because the people who have been the cruelest to me usually have a lot of friends.

I’ve chose that this book does in fact serve it’s purpose – to make people like you. It starts by helping you connect better with people, & I really like the piece on determining if the person is auditory or visual (or kino). I used this as a excellent start, & later stirred on to the more obvious: Fate & Reil’s How to have sex with hot girls (lacking even dating them), & Louis & Copeland’s How to make it with women.
