Product Description
The House of Night is a thrilling, New York Times bestselling book series that follows 16-year-ancient Zoey Redbird as she is “Marked” by a vampyre tracker and starts to undergo the “Change” into an actual vampyre. She has to place her family tree in Broken Arrow, OK, and go into the House of Night, a boarding school for additional fledgling vampyres like her.
It’s tough to start a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. Although Zoey has awesome new powers, it’s hard to fit in when everyone knows you’re “special.” As Zoey tries to make new friends and maybe find a hot boyfriend (or two), she comes up against all kinds of evil, from the perfect-looking, super-well loved girl with not-so-faultless plans, to the mysterious deaths happening at the House of Night and all over Tulsa. Things at the House of Night are not permanently what they seem. Can Zoey find the courage deep within herself to find the truth and embrace her destiny?

The only thing excellent about these books are the gorgeous covers. These books use the Lord’s name in vain and has terrible language. Not a excellent book for young adults or any adults that don’t delight in reading terrible language. I will return the books. I don’t recommend this series.

I have to admit…I don’t read “deep” novels, rarely (if ever) Oprah’s “pick”. I read mostly at night before I go to sleep, on vacations or planes, etc. I like books that pull me in within the first chapter….maybe two. I like mysteries and yes, I excellent vampire tale or two. I have read the Twilight series and the Dead Until Dark series (which is my favorite of the two, by the way), so when I establish House of Night, it looked like something that would work for me so I gave it a try and I really like it. The read is quick, simple and I like the twist on “vampyres”. All the characters are likable, even the ones you want the heroine to beat. This series knocks Twilight out of the playground and rivals Sookie (well, maybe not Sookie with Eric but..). I’m already middle through book 4 and am glad there are more. The 1-4 pack that Amazon offers is a excellent deal for the $ too.

As much as I like this series I’m very disappointed with Amazon selling them. This four book set is the first ‘re’ printing of the books by a new publisher. The two most recent books have both been unrestricted as hardback only by this publisher but the original four were all paperback so I was so excited to find that they were releasing this 4 book set in hardback. I ordered these back in February when the pre-order started and up until sometime in October they have been listed as a Hardback book set. Now all the sudden they are paperback—why Amazon? I already own the first 4 books in paperback. Way to go Amazon it’s just fantastic that you can’t get the information right or let people know who have bought them if there is a change.

Wait, what was she again? By she, I mean practically every female character who disliked any of the five marvel kids, who were friends at first sight. A “ho”, “grave”, or “a hag from hell(x 8 gazillion)”. The authors spent the majority of the books preaching their dislikes by branching off reactions to a situation with a speech. Telling us homophobia is terrible, Christianity and people of faith are terrible, oral sex is terrible, too much eyeliner is terrible, sluts are terrible, emo kids are terrible, goth kids are grungy…terrible. It was like reading books based off an abc family tree sitcom. The characters were flat, and the conversations made me cringe. I heard boobie and poopie so regularly I nearly cried. I kept reading–listening to the audio I should say. Maybe the books would have read better, because the performers whine made me cringe, and her drawl and slow speech used for the grandmother and temple priestess were intensely horrible. I prefer to deduce and not to be told how to look at certain situations and injustices. I just couldn’t bring myself to like Zoey. Her thoughts rambled, every man hotter than average had an intense attraction to her–her actions be damned, they left their pride and common sense at their introduction. Information about each character was open through speech or thoughts, and not actions (maybe we’d have seen them acted out in the plot–if there as one). I tired quickly of the “twins”, and Damien’s vocabulary lessons. Several of the characters mimicked unique wording by coincidence, and I felt a perfect lack of authenticity or difference in any of them. It was as if all of them were hooked up to the same brain, sharing speech, thoughts, and unlikely information. I wouldn’t recommend these to anyone older than say, six or seven. You’d need a completely blank slate to make this an enjoyable read. Prepare to have your opinions rocked!
