I got a hold of this book because all the Christian resources for homeschooling promote it. I was apalled that she lists the harry potter books as can’t miss books. Just wanted to warn the others out there. witchcraft is a sin as stated in the Bible and any tales that elevate it, building it seem like a excellent escape or excellent life is a lie and we all know small children soak up everything like a sponge. I want my son to have much better role models. Hope this helped a name.

I have establish the book to be helpful, but with careful consideration. I was so excited about finally getting a book, written from a Christian perspective, that would help me choose excellent literature for my children. This book does help with that, but I still need to be careful as the leader thinks that Harry Potter is appropriate for children. She sees no difference in the fantasy of books like Harry Potter and Mary Poppins. She says that children are able to determine the difference between fantasy and reality and that is just not right. I have 4 children and I can tell you that my children cannot permanently determine the difference. To me, the difference comes in when fantasy is so make-judge that it could never take place in real life–such as happens in Mary Poppins. It is a fun tale because there is no way that a person could do all the things that she does, in real life. Harry Potter crosses the line, in my opinion, because what goes on in persons books CAN be all too real and can cause a curious child to want to know more about the supernatural. I have no problem discussing these thoughts with my children, I do not shelter them from everything, but I do not feel it is appropriate to intentionally give them an appetite for such books. Take what you can from the book. THere are some very excellent thoughts. Unfortuantely, I had a hard time seeing all of them because her opinion on Harry Potter really changed my perspective of the book.

I cannot tell you how wonderful this book is. I kept checking out copies from the library and finally realized I needed one of my own. Every mom needs a copy to learn all the magnificent books that are out there for children. It is so helpful as a resource book, as it is divided into recommended ages for each book and the beginning part of why books/reading are so vital is inspiring. Every time I pick it up I can’t wait to go find another book and read it to my children. You won’t regret getting this book!
