First, I don’t have twins so my review is from a small bit different perspective. I’ve read Healthy Sleep Habits Pleased Child take in to take in and have worked directly with Dr. Weissbluth concerning my son’s terrible (now awesome) sleeping. My only challenge with his previous book was the part. I appreciate the full explanation but it was really hard to digest when I was so sleep deprived. Lots of reviews indicated as much so I was hoping that this new book would be clearer. I am so pleased to report that it is so clear and concise, perfect for parents that have lost all brain function from lack of sleep. It’s very much step by step and to the point.
Dr. Weissbluth fervently stressed during our meetings the need to start early with sleep training. With my son we ongoing at 4 months so I wasn’t sure how I would go about starting from day one but fortunately this book tells you how to do just that. I really want to do a better job with our next child and I know from experience how much you question yourself while you are training. I really appreciate that this book lays everything out in a very clear fashion to help me stay all ears next time.
You can just snub the twin point items if you are looking for help with a single child. If you are looking for more details or still unsure about the need for sleep training then you should read Pleased Child too. I can’t say if the twin point suggestions are excellent or terrible but it all made sense to me in the context of the sleep training we had gone through and watching my brother with his fraternal twin boys.

Dr. Weisbluth should be ashamed of himself! This 2009 book copies Giordano’s 2006 book from the take in (compare “a step by step program for sleep training” to “a step by step plot for baby sleep success”) to the content. If you compare the books you will be floored by the similarities. Although I reflect Giordano’s (a twin mom herself!!!!!) is still more straight forwards and simple to read.

I bought this as a gift—nothing like unsolicited advice
and it dramatically changed the lives of a whole family tree for the better. Don’t let the negative comments fool you. Dr. Weissbluth is the real thing!

It really is a nice book to have… before manner of language. It can help you out preparation and is useful for new parents to reassure themselves in times when you are not at your best. Honestly I did not find the miracle recipe I was hoping to get which could mean some sleep for my wife and me , but then again the book can’t take in all circumstances. Most I’ve read is common sense and we were already into it. The newest things for us were the hands-on techniques (which we could not apply when necessary). Very appealing anyhow.

The follow-up Healthy Sleep Habits, Pleased Twins is a excellent resource to a parent of twins, offering practical advice for handling your multiples with a nice balance of confidence and humility.
I had a singleton first, and we used the Healthy Sleep Habits, Pleased Child book to sleep train her. (Sleep train is a harsh description as it invokes images of a screaming baby and stressed parents but this is NOT how I’d clarify this method) Because I had previous experience with the Weissbluth method we had an advantage in sleep training our twins. I establish while the twins’ book offered some practical detail about twinfants, and dealing with common concerns related to prematurity, it lacked the detail of its predecessor, Healthy Sleep Habits, Pleased Child.
The Weissbluth method focuses nearly entirely on the premise that rested babies sleep better. You need to toss out the age ancient notion that if you keep your baby up, they will sleep longer and better at night. This simply is an ancient wives tale not unlike putting cereal in your infant’s bottle. Weissbluth focuses on preventing terrible habits from starting and getting your baby down in their crib sleepy but awake and allowing them to drift off to sleep by themselves. I was skeptical at first, particularly because he says that babies can’t comfortably stay awake for more than 90 minutes. BUT ITS TRUE, after 90 minutes all of my children reach a state of irritability, where they seem to want to nurse and be cuddled. With my first child I mistook this cue to mean that she was hungry. I was nursing her every 90 minutes when I should have been napping her.
All in all I HIGHLY recommend the Healthy Sleep Habits method, but I suggest the parent of multiples buy the original book, Pleased Child, and skip Pleased Twins. It just didn’t have the detail and step by step instructions like Pleased Child had and I still use my Pleased Child book as quick reference when one of the kids hits a amusing sleeping stage.
FAQ’s about being a mom of multiples.
- Yes, my twins shared a crib until they ongoing moving around. They tended to snuggle close together so I had to place a barrier between them in the crib to lower the risk of SIDS and them accidentally smothering each additional.
- I place them in separate cribs in the same room at 5 months.
- They really do snub each additional. One does not wake the additional when they weep in the middle of the night
- When one wakes for a night feeding we permanently woke up the additional one and fed them too to keep them on the same schedule.
- We keep their room at about 65 degrees
- We give them a bath every night before bed but as a replacement for of trying to wrangle the baby tub we bought the 2 of the spongy things and place them in the regular bath tub. It is quicker and they like the water.
