The Haunted by Jessica Verday is truly spellbinding and delightful. A modern day ghost tale full of romance, loneliness and aching like all with a touch of paranormal fundamentals and the introduction of some super creepy new characters.
In this sequel to The Hollow, set in Sleepy Hallow, New York, Abby Browning returns home after spending time with her Aunt Marjorie after what her family tree believes to be a nervous breakdown brought on by the drowning of her best friend, Kristen. Even Abby starts to judge that what happened was just her imagination and couldn’t possibly be right.
Abby tries to act normally and soon calls Ben, her ancient lab partner, to help her out in Science which she didn’t do so well in while she was being home schooled at her aunts. They have a bit of a strained relationship. Ben was in like with Kristen and seems to know so much more about her; more than even Abby did and it starts to raise some questions in Abby’s mind. She trusts Ben but she also feels that he may be hiding something from her. She tries to stay away from the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where Washington Irving is buried and were she first met Caspian but it beckons to her.
Abby is also trying to forget Caspian Vander, first introduced to her as Caspian Winch in The Hollow. She fell in like with him only to find out he’s a ghost that only Abby can see. Casper had made her a necklace, a square of glass with her real name, Astrid, engraved in delicate scroll and attached with a black velvet ribbon. She had forgotten about it while she was gone at her aunts but when she establish it again, she knew that Caspian had to exist. There is also Nikolas and Katy, the right characters behind Washington Irving’s Sleepy Hollow tale. I won’t add who they are in the tale; I don’t want to spoil it for first time readers (although, I highly recommend reading The Hollow first). Abby finds Nikolas and Katy again and gets some more answers to her questions, reconnects with Caspian, etc…
There is so much more to this tale! There is an incredibly creepy and evil presence, strangers that aren’t reasonably `normal’ (and they aren’t ghosts) and finally some answers to what it is that happened to Kristen that horrible night she died.
The one thing I didn’t like was the cliffhanger ending. I don’t reflect I can wait a year for the next book to come out!

I just got this book the additional day, and I was unable to place it down until I finished it at about midnight! It was definitly one of my favorite books of the new series, perhaps one of my favorites of all time!
I loved how they had Joe more beleiving in ghosts, and Frank trying to find logical explainations for everything, and I liked how they each backed up their points of veiw. I loved the mystery and intrige that lurked around every confront of that spooky place.
Your opinions might change throughout the book! The seance will give you the creeps!! I dare anyone to try to place this book down after beginning to read. This is definatly a book that I highly recommend! (Just watch out for the ghosts…)
