Legends are not simply born…they are willed into being.
Humanity has expanded beyond the Sol System. There are hundreds of planets we now call “home.”
The United Nations Space Mandate now struggles to control this vast empire.
After exhausting all strategies to keep seething insurrections from exploding into interplanetary civil war, the UNSC has one last hope.
At the Office of Naval Intelligence, Dr. Catherine Halsey has been hard at work on a top secret program that could bring an end to all this conflict…and it starts with seventy-five children, among them a six year ancient boy named John.
Halsey never guessed that this small boy would become humanity’s final hope against a vast alien force hell-bent on wiping us out.
This is the tale of John, Spartan-117…the Master Chief, and of the battles that brought humanity face to face with its possible extinction.

The game is was and permanently will be horrible. The weak tale line in the game is shamefull and this sorry book was supposed to fill in all the tremendous gaps in the tale. Unfortunatly it leaves much to be desired, Oh well chalk another terrible go on Junk-rosoft’s poor attempt to make a system and a game more well loved than Resident Evil.

I bought this book thinking it was a “cheat” to help me get through the levels and establish that it’s a tale. Not exactly what I had expected. No reflection on the book itself for younger readers but persons of us “over 21″ trying to get through the levels of Halo need all the help we can get! This is of no help in this area!

This book sucked. It ruined the whole Halo tale for me. A book about dumb bunch of kids running around. I rather watch the small rascals movie again. I recommend that you don’t buy it.

Eric Nylund knows zilch about writing combat. This some of the worst amateur drivel I’ve ever had the misfortune to come across.
It must have been a struggle to write something so flat and uncharasmatic as this. The action reads like it was written for members of the Oprah Book Club or as an after school special.
It’s not excellent scifi. It’s not excellent action. It’s not emotionally mature or challenging in any way.
What is most surprising is Nylund’s additional books “Signal to Noise” etc. are pretty excellent. This on the additional hand is a car manufacturing accident with no survivors. There are dozens of fantastic authors writing military scifi. Nylund is not one of them.
Want excellent miltiary scifi? Try John G Hemry’s Stark series, Ian Douglas’s “Semper Luna” trilogy, Steve Perry’s “Matador” series, Walter Jon Williams “Metropolitan” series, David Weber “Honor Harrington” series, Joe Haldeman’s “Forever Peace” and “Forever War”.

I question you to please read this MAJOR gripe before passing judgement on me. I bought a PocketPC for many reasons – but I was surprised when reading ebooks became my personal “killer application.” Well, I have been majorly frustrated by technical snafu after technical snafu. Once I am able to successfully open an e-book on my pocketPC – I delight in the heck out of backlit reading!!! I was unable to open the Microsoft Reader version of “Halo: The Fall of Reach” on my PocketPC – after trying everything and sending countless emails!!! So I chose to migrate to the Adobe reader version. I am hereby notifying you PocketPC users – DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! I have just establish out the HARD WAY – that Adobe’s PocketPC reader is a useless piece of code. Adobe’s forums clarify IN DETAIL how the public (you and I) are duped into paying for Adobe ebooks with the expectation that we’ll be able to read them from our PocketPC’s. Forget it! You will only be able to read the book on your desktop using Adobe Reader 6.0, but any version you download to your PocketPC will give your the “unable to decrypt” error message. We are all guinea pigs in this grand conduct experiment called “ebooks.” I assure you that the industry knows of the flaws and technical snafus, but are more than willing to let you PAY to learn these for yourself. Please do not buy this ebook with the expectation of reading it from your trusty PocketPC.
