Product Description
250 years ago, Ascalon burned . . .
Desperate to defend his land from advancing hordes of bestial charr, King Adelbern summoned the all-powerful Foefire to repel the invaders. But magic can be a double-edged sword—the Foefire burned both charr and human alike. While the charr corpses smoldered, the killer Ascalonians arose again, transformed by their king’s rage into ghostly protectors and charged with guarding the realm . . . forever. The once mighty kingdom became a haunted shadow of its ex- glory.
Centuries later, the descendants of Ascalon, exiled to the nation of Kryta, are besieged on all sides. To save humankind, Queen Jennah seeks to negotiate a treaty with the despised charr. But one hindrance remains. The charr legions won’t sign the treaty until their most prized possession, the Claw of the Khan-Ur,is returned from the ruins of fallen Ascalon.
Now a mismatched band of adventurers, each plagued by ghosts of their own, sets into the world into a haunted, war-torn land to retrieve the Claw. Lacking the manufactured article, there is no hope for peace between human and charr—but the undead king who rules Ascalon won’t give it up easily, and not everyone wants peace!

This book has surpassed my expectations of what a Guild Wars book can be. The authors did a spectacular job at shaping the world of Tyria into book form.

Forbeck and Grubb have honestly delivered what fans of the Guild Wars series have been craving ever since the announcement of Guild Wars 2. Sorry to say, Guild Wars 2 is not out yet as of this post, but treat this product like a tiny bone thrown to the rabid fans of Guild Wars. The first chapter can be read for free on the official Guild Wars 2 website, which leaves readers like myself wanting more.
Now for the excellent parts: Fans who really own the original Guild Wars and the expansions will be tickled to know that characters from the past are mentioned in this book. The world should not be unfamiliar to persons who have played the original Guild Wars Prophecies and the map that is included in the book will help the reader envision where the party is at during the events in the book. The description of the environment which the characters are currently at are described very well, and I can really imagine what it’s like visiting Divinity’s Reach!
Now for the critical part: The writing seems to drop off at some points but it immediately picks back up especially parts where there is a lot of action. There are few places where the locations are to some extent incorrect, but this is just a fan nitpicking at parts of the book. Character development can be improved a honest bit as some characters just feel really empty lacking any improvement to them.
Overall, remember that this is only a tale of a tiny group of adventurers who are on a mission. The book gives us a glimpse of what it’s like seeing into the eyes of this odd party. The book was written generally for fans, but anyone can pick it up and give it a excellent read at a fantastic fee.
What is your tale?

I received a free copy of this book signed at San Diego Comic con on friday. I ongoing reading it recently. I am a very slow reader, but this book will not let me place it down. In one night I read 2 chapters before apt too tired to read anymore. It is a real page turner, especially if you are a veteran of tyria and know the races/classes/places being described. If you are new to tyria it provides a fantastic look at what you can expect at the very least from Guild Wars 2.

I play the video game and could not wait tell the book came out. You do not need to play the game to read the book. I loved reading the book but I only gave it 4 stars because it is not award winning writing. I liked how the leader was able to fill in the back history leading up to the book.
I liked the character development and would read sequel to the book.

This book is very engaging. You don’t want to place the book down. You don’t have to play Guild Wars to know the book, but it does give you a better feel if you’ve played the game. The book takes place between Guild Wars 1 and GW 2. There will be 2 more books to follow, and I hope they are just as excellent, if not better than this one.
I recommend this book to any Lord of the Rings fan, Sword of Truth, Stormbreaker, sci-fi, fantasy, action fan. This book will keep you reading until the end. I couldn’t place the book down.
I recommend this book.
