I’ve been growing my family tree’s, and now my own, vegetables for over 17 years, ever since I filled in my kids’ sandbox with soil and compost and planted my first seeds. I’ve got a levelheaded library of farming books, and try to add one each spring to help me plot my garden, or learn about a particular plant I delight in raising. This year I chose Grow Fantastic Grub, and I was tickled when it arrived.
From the moment I opened this fresh garden book, I was drawn in and establish new information, luscious pictures, and (some) recipes that made me keen for this year’s harvest. Gayla Trail’s book seems perfect for the new gardener with just a windowsill or balcony, but she has plenty to offer the suburban gardener with years of experience – me.
I’m delighted that I selected this book to add to my farming library. It’s giving me plenty of thoughts on compost, watering, new plants to try, and better ways to raise ancient favorites. And it’s just a fantastic read, too.

I am so glad I got this book. It has gorgeous pictures and it really inspires you to make something lasting
and awesome in your yard or space. We are trying to be more sustainable as a family tree and this book has helped enormously. And it makes it look simple and fun! I even bought this book for a friend and she likes it as well.

This is a fantastic book, especially for the beginning gardener. I blog about farming and am permanently getting questions about composting, how to start seeds, how to erect excellent soil, etc. I will start recommending this book to my beginning gardener readers! Its clarifies easily and simply how to do so many farming tasks from building a raised bed to composting. It’s the perfect books for a name getting ongoing because it doesn’t get bogged down with too much information and isn’t overwhelming. It promoted farming as simple and fun (which it is).
Farming is a learning process, we learn as we go. It’s not necessary to know everything there is to know before setting off. This book does a fantastic job and giving a fantastic overview with enough information and inspiration to get people appealing in growing food. Some beginners may find they need more in depth information than is open in this book, especially about point topics, but a book can’t take in everything in such depth. There are many books for each point area of farming that can be read if you need more information about any particular topic, like composting, seed starting, or growing garlic.
The best part of this book is the photos. Photos are certainly something that engages people and draws them into the beauty of farming, especially growing food. I find books like this simple to read and a joy to look through. The photos are certainly an inspiration and serve their purpose to encourage people to Grow Fantastic Grub in their tiny spaces! It’s an inspiration to me to keep documenting my garden through photos on my blog.
This book is not just for the beginning gardener. I establish many tips that were useful for me and and the list of plants for hard spaces is a fantastic resource (I’ll be adding this to my garden pad). It seems that not many of us have the “ideal” garden spaces, so listing plants for these less than perfect areas is something not many books talk about. You’ll most likely find yourself cataloging pages or jotting down notes in your pad as you read.
Even though I don’t buy many books (permanently try from the library first) and I already have a pretty excellent farming library, this book will most likely be added to my library soon!

This is a fantastic farming book for a name that wants to make the most of your space! Filled with fantastic thoughts, projects, information and photos!!! Is very clear with lists of things to do for certain problems, very simple to follow. Highly recommended!
