Product Description
Considered among the highest achievements of the American arts and crafts movement, Greene & Greene furniture was custom-built for point interior spaces, and many of the pieces still remain in their original locations. This manual, written by a nationally recognizable furniture maker, provides intermediate and advanced woodworkers with well illustrated, step-by-step instructions for classic Greene & Greene details, including ebony plugs, cloud lifts, leg indents, brackets, and pulls. A discussion of the design philosophy of the period accompanies how-to chapters, and photographs of contemporary Greene-inspired furniture provide thoughts for projects. Biographical sketches are included for Charles and Henry Greene, Peter and John Hall (who built most of the furniture), and competing furniture maker Gustav Stickley.

Before I bought this book, I owned another book call In Craftman’s Style. It was such a fantastic book that I thought this book was just going to be another fantastic book. But, soon I realized that my expectation was unrealistic. First of all, this book did not offer me with any new information. Most of what it talked about in the book was already covered in the additional book. The additional book also offered many useful project plans. This one offered no such thing. It may seem unfair to judge one book base on another one. But, this book came out several year after In Craftman’s Style repeated half of the materials. So even if I don’t consider being cheated by buying this book, I was truly very disappointed at best.

Review for amazon service relating to this book, not the book itself. I ordered this book a few weeks ago but it was back ordered, no problem, I am uncomplaining. After waiting weeks and monitoring it’s status it finally changed and a manner of language date range was agreed. Suddenly Amazon cancels the order on me adage it took too long to process. Then immediately the book is available at double the fee I had modest it for when it was back ordered. Amazon didn’t want to sell me the book at the fee I had ordered it for in excellent faith, agreed up for lost my order and then they jacked up the fee and want me to buy it at double the cost now. Pathetic, first time I’ve been disappointed with Amazon, taking my business elsewhere.

I originally bought this book because I wanted to make the “indent leg” jig. I was pleasantly surprised with all the Green & Green history and the Hall brothers history. It is a really excellent read especially if you are interested in Arts & Crafts furniture.

Well conceived book for the woodworker who interested in Greene and Greene detail. The illustrations are brilliant and instructive.

My I add to brilliant this review from a reader which is a excellant explanation of Darrell book about the Greene’s and my dear grandfather and fantastic Uncle.
J. Gary Hall.
In this book, Darrell really went to extra lengths to show how this remarkable furniture was made and how to erect your own tribute to the masters, the Hall brothers and the Greene brothers. You will gain insight on how things were done ‘the right way’ 100 years ago that is available nowhere else. The X-rays of joints alone are worth the fee of the book. My I add to this review from a reader which is a excellant explanation of Darrell book about the Greene’s and my dear gradfather and fantastic Uncle.
