This is a sad case of a well loved concept for comic companies now: taking exactly 6 issues to tell an arc.
This entire tale could have been condensed into 2 issues, if not an extra-sized special.
Bogged down the ongoing storyline terribly.
I guess if you dunno Hal’s origin, you can go get Showcase Presents Green Hurricane lantern, and pretty much pay less and get more bang for your buck. Yeah, that origin’s retconned by this one, but still: 6 issues to tell a 2 issue arc is terrible and not worth the money to buy a hardcover of it.

I’m an ancient fan, really ancient fan. I have been reading Hal Jordan since DC first revamped the Alan Scott character of the 40’s. I wasn’t bored one iota with this telling of the origin for newer readers. Mainly because Johns fleshes out the parts and makes Hal Jordon a much more sympathetic character than he ever was before.I’d have to say the first 5 issues are superb. Its the last few that seem to lose a small of the flair that is so well written in the start. Its not a book you read and go , thats bunk or a waste of time. In fact any ancient Hurricane lantern fan will like the explanation of Abin Sur and Sinestro’s ongoing history with Hal. Pie and Carol are well handled and Johns is apt the real go-to writer of DC. Read it and hope Johns takes on Flash and Atom and any Silver age hero he chooses. Its money well spent . I’d like his take on Adam Weird, hint-hint

This book was a basic retcon of Hal Jordan Green Hurricane lantern’s origin. This is the first GL that I have read and after watching the DC animated Green Hurricane lantern: First Flight I chose to buy this.
It reads really simple and there is enough action and tale to keep you interested but one complaint is that it was written to the trade. In additional words it was made into seven issues as a replacement for of say four because they wanted to make it fit in a trade. There was a small filler to make it last but it was nevertheles a GREAT book.
The added bonuses are getting to see Black Hand, Atrocitus, and John Stewart before they ade there original appearances!
Also check out issue one where Atrocitus is called Atrorcitus. Nearly made me reflect it was a name else!

So I selected this up as my first Green Hurricane lantern trade, and I’m really hooked. Something about this intergalactic mythos is so entertaining that I was left wanting more and more. Be aware, but, that a lot of fans place this farther along the reading order and suggest Rebirth as the first in the series to be read. This seems like a honest starting point as well, so the choice is really yours.
On the Marvel side of things, I’m really hooked on Thor, so it seemed natural to look for a DC character that is similar in style. Green Hurricane lantern is different, because its a space epic as opposed to a mythology epic. That being said both characters have an incredible history and I just want to know more and more about them. It seems like Johns is the powerhouse at DC, because everything he writes gets so much praise and I can see why. It’s his ability to write witty wit, while still grounding a comic in a seriously-toned reality. He is a writer that brings justice to the archetype of the superhero.
Supporting characters were fantastic. Sinestro and Hector Hammond make very eerie and powerful appearances. I had a taste of Green Hurricane lantern’s origin in DC: The New Frontier, but this was way more enjoyable. The main thing I’m dying to see more of is awesome constructs. Geoff Johns sets up huge in this one for a Green Hurricane lantern with powerful powers. I can’t wait to see where this comic goes.

Before Geoff Johns ongoing writing Green Hurricane lantern I couldn’t care less about the character. Now I can’t wait for the next arc, and for was is coming next, meaning Blackest Night.
A excellent tale about the Origin of Green Hurricane lantern(Hal Jordan), with excellent art from Ivan Reis. How he became a Green Hurricane lantern, his relationship whith his father, with Madame Ferris, his passion for fliying, his first encounter ( as a partner ) with Siniestro.
With this tale you get to know the character behind the mask.
I loved reasonably a bit! I’m sure you will too.
