Tess Gerritsen used to be a doctor, so it comes as no fantastic surprise that the medical aspects of her latest thriller are absolutely convincing–even if most of the action happens in a place where few doctors have ever practiced–outer space.
Dr. Emma Watson and five additional hand-selected astronauts are about to take part in the trip of a lifetime–studying living creatures in space. But an alien life form, establish in the deepest crevices of the ocean floor, is accidentally brought aboard the shuttle Atlantis. This mutated alien life form makes the creatures in Aliens look like backyard pets.
Soon the crew are suffering severe stomach pains, violent convulsions, and eyes so bloodshot that a gallon of Murine wouldn’t help. Gerritsen brilliantly describes the difficulties of treating sick people inside a space module, and how the lack of gravity affects the process of taking blood and inserting a nasal tube. Dr. Watson does her best, but her colleagues die off one by one and the people at NASA don’t want to risk bringing the platform back to planet. Only Emma’s spouse, a doctor/astronaut himself, refuses to give up on her. As we read along, eyes popping out of our heads, all that’s missing is one of persons featureless NASA voices adage, “Houston, we have a problem–we’re being attacked by tiny small creatures that are part human, part frog, and part mouse.”

I establish this book BORING. I establish it in a used book store for $1.00 so I gave it a try. As a replacement for of being a novel of medical suspense, it is more like a sleeping pill. The plot line is convoluted, and although the leader claims she got help from NASA in writing it, the background is not factual.
I would not recommend this unless you were stuck on an ocean liner and it was the only book available and there was no bar, phone or cable.

Never mind what it says on the take in of her books that she is a bestselling leader and better than Crichton and Palmer. It is all BS. She is not a writer and she has no thought what it means to write a book. I have run out of books before and selected up few of her downers. This was one of it. Book is terrible, so improbable, and illogical that you just get disgusted by this whole charade. Please do not waist your time on Gerritsen. Any additional leader – and I mean ANY – would be better than her.

hollow, stereotypical people populate this horrible book. this book makes “independance day” seem packed with verisimilitude. if you like medical books written well, try richard preston.

i read t.g.’s harvest and life support and absolutely could not wait for this book to come out. what a huge disappointment. as a name who can read 3 novels a week, this novel took me a month to struggle through.

I’ve read most of Tess Gerritsen’s recent novels, and establish them really unputdownable; but this one just didn’t cut it with me. I reflect maybe it was the setting of the book that place me off. Space missions and sci-fi just don’t push my buttons and I couldn’t seem to get beyond that. Although, having read additional reviews on here, maybe I should perhaps just stick with it a small longer?
