Product Description
For decades we have been taught that stout is terrible for us, carbohydrates better, and that the key to a healthy weight is eating less and exercising more. Yet despite this advice, we have seen unprecedented epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Taubes argues that the problem lies in refined carbohydrates, like white flour, easily digested starches, and sugars, and that the key to excellent health is the kind of calories we take in, not the number. In this groundbreaking book, award-winning science writer Gary Taubes shows us that nearly everything we judge about the scenery of a healthy diet is incorrect.

The leader doesn’t get it. This book is 400 pages of the driest, most inaccurate and criminally irresponsible rantings I have ever read.
One of the hypotheses of the book is that sugar – SUGAR – is the leading cause of heart disease. I have three words for you, Mr. Taubes – Doctor Dean Ornish. He’s the world’s leading power om heart disease, he’s saved countless lives, and he’s reached the conclusion that sugar plays a tiny, incremental role in coronary artery disease. The main causal factors of Coronary Artery Disease are FAT and CHOLESTEROL. Also, lack of exercise. To suggest otherwise to sell a few books and pad your bank account is blameworthy.

Carbs are not BAD for you, just like fats aren’t terrible for you; TOO MANY carbs and fats are BAD for you. The whole trick to being healthy is calories in = calories out. If you eat too much you’ll gain weight; if you want to lose weight, then you need to cut back on calories or exercise or both; you need a 500 calorie deficit per day to lose weight. All of the authors who tell you that carbs are terrible…they have a book, and they want to sell the book. They’re just playing on your desire to lose weight. They just want your money. Theres no secrets in the diet world: calories in = calories out.

Taubes uses ridiculous comparisons and unfounded statements. Want to know what really works? How people recover from cancer? Check out Hallelujah Acres. And for real nutritional science look at The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, PhD, which includes the largest nutritional study ever accomplished–880 million people!

This is the worst diet book I have ever read. It is more like a Master’s Thesis on diets that don’t work. I have read 2/3rds of it and don’t know yet what he thinks does work. I do not plot to end the book, I would be bored to death and still not know what to eat.

How many of you posting positive reviews of Taubes’ book are physicians? I talked to my cardiologist, who coincidentially had just finished the book. He used terms like “frightening speechifying”, “ill-conceived”, “junk science” and “terrible, terrible.” The rest of what he said was too profane to be printed here.
Please, folks, avoid this book. The life you save may be your own.
