This is my favorite! Fee is fantastic. Highly recommended buy. The drawings are very nicely done and the fashions are so pretty. There are 30 pages of drawings of women’s fashions for time period 1838 to 1880. Most pages have 2 to 3 females in different outfits. There are only a few pages that have one female. The details are pretty and so are the faces; very cute and the eyes are very nice too. If a name prefers to have these pages enlarged, you will not lose any detail like you would find in some clip-art books. (I wish, but, that there was background detail for that time period, i.e. a garden, victorian house, etc). Each page also describes what they are wearing. Fantastic way to get a quick “snapshot” of that time long long ago. (By the way, can you imagine dressing like that and having no air conditioning??). Victorian Houses (Dover Pictorial Archives) The Victorian House Tan Book I recommend purchasing these two tan books as well to go along with Godey’s Fashions and Fashion Then and Now (Costumes for Tan Series)

I’ve ordered reasonably a few of the tan books for pencils, and this one is the best! Detailed, gorgeous pictures. I don’t agree with the additional reviewer adage it was too pretty to use. The pictures, after being colored, are gorgeous, and to be able to flip from page to page and see the different styles and colors on the models, is really enjoyable! You do have to be careful not to use too much pressure on the pencils as it will show through on the flip side, but if you just do a soft tan, there’s no problem at all.

This is a lovely tan book, but, the dresses are so detailed that it might be hard for a child to “color within the lines”.

This tan book starts with a fleeting blurb about Lady’s book (later Godey’s Lady Book) aka who we can thank for these lovely images.
Each page gives us information about the page we’re tan — including the year that fashion appeared, the fabrics used, what the accents are, etc.
While some adult tan books require you to all but grab a magnifying glass for the details, this one is a bit kinder on the eyes. Some pages have nearly no tiny areas leaving you to your own devices when it comes to just how much shading / sprucing up of the image you’d like to do. Or, alternatively, if you’re in the mood for some of the more detailed challenges some pages do have fashions that will require you sharpen the colored pencils to a fine point before you start effective on them.
Some of the tan books that are geared towards adults might not be as appropriate for kids, but this one is just fine for them. Really tiny kids would maybe have problems with the pages that have some of the finer details, but beyond that, there’s no reason why kids of all ages couldn’t color these pages.
If you like Victorian fashion, history, and tan then you won’t want to miss this one.

I like this tan book. I only wish there was a picture on one side of the paper, additional then that it’s fantastic!
