Product Description
The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in twenty-?ve years than the Romans did in four hundred. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization. Vastly more progressive than his European or Asian counterparts, Genghis Khan abolished torture, granted universal religious freedom, and smashed feudal systems of aristocratic privilege. From the tale of his rise through the clannish culture to the explosion of civilization that the Mongol Empire unleashed, this brilliant work of revisionist history is nothing less than the epic tale of how the modern world was made.

Genghis Khan could easilly be viewed as the world’s first modern leader.

This is a balanced look at the Mongols and the legacy of Genghis Khan. It writes some past wrongs and also teachs the reader about one of the most fascinating empires ever. I am not a professor or scholar, I am but a history lover. This is one of persons books that you don’t want to end. I really did delight in it and I will be seeking out more from this leader.

I could not get past the introduction of this book. I could get past some lies, like the fact that the Qin period united China as a nation centuries before Genghis Khan, but when the leader lied about current events just for convenience I could not take it anymore. The book claims that the Taliban killed the Hazara people (descendants of Mongol armies) in 2002 in “mad revenge” because they equated the US invasion to the Mongol invasion centuries ago. The leader did not have the sense to do a small research and find out that The Taliban had been targeting the Hazara people before 9/11 not because of their ethnicity but rather because they subscribe to the Shia Muslim school of thought, while they themselves are extremist Sunni Wahabis. Massacres of Hazara civilians, and some Iranian diplomats, at Mazar-e-Sharif nearly led to a war between the Taliban and Iran before 2001 – of course at that point the US was providing aid to the Taliban to fight poppy production.
It is clear that the leader is ready to make up facts to make his book more appealing.
I was looking for a excellent book about Mongol history – clearly this is more like pulp fiction.

Thanks for this revolutionary book first time in Western world.
He changed the past view and wrote right history about World history. WIthout Mongolian history, there is a hole for more than 200 years in the world history. Thanks again for Secret History of Mongolia which establish only 100 year ago and for Jack Weatherford’s revolutionary book.
Lacking reading this book, I can not imagine about our World.

In order to know the future, one must comprehend the past. I have permanently been interested in history and outcomes of my native country. I permanently wondered why some people in the eastern part of the country look different than me. I realized that thanks to Ghanghis Kahn and his conquests, he frightened the world. I am sure if he was alive and if his sons were as talented as a warrior as he was, the rest of Eurpoe would have also been effected.
This was a fantastic book. I loved reading it and it persuaded me to study him further.
