In this latest thriller from perennial bestselling leader James Patterson, Washington cop Alex Cross gets involved in his partner’s effort to save the life of an ancient Army buddy who’s facing execution for a horrendous and inexplicable murder bender in North Carolina. The Army’s evidence against Sergeant Ellis Cooper, a decorated Vietnam vet, is overwhelming, which isn’t surprising since it’s all been planted by a quartet of killers whose reason for framing the erstwhile hero isn’t revealed until long after they are. The huge secret is who set the murderers loose, and in right cliffhanger fashion, Patterson keeps it under wraps until the very end. Meanwhile, his usual blend of action, violence, quick pacing and uninspired-though-serviceable prose prevail, and will probably do so all the way to the top of the bestseller lists. –Jane Adams

Alex Cross close to his best.
The mice are three homicidal Army Rangers and their `handler.’ We know this, but Det. Alex Cross doesn’t, at least not till later. The tale starts as Cross’s best acquaintances buddy is establish guilty at a military examination of cruelly killing three women. He’s sentences to die, but of course, he swears he’s innocent. Cross and Sampson, his friend, go down south to investigate but meet with blank faces, clogged doors, official silence, missing files, and additional forms of stonewalling at every turn of a hallway. They push forwards anyway and start to learn a pattern that is hauntingly familiar. Meanwhile, the real killers strike again – and then the two investigating cops find themselves as targets.
Okay. That’s enough information. To say more might be to say too much. Just know that there’s a stunning finale that will keep you reading to the end line lacking pausing for a drink of water.
Terrific entertainment.

Mr Patterson is back to the Alex Cross I’ve come to like and delight in. This novel was so entertaining that I was able to end in 2 days. Would have finished sooner, but life interrupted. Alex Cross and Sampson were superb in this grippng outing. I would have liked the killers to stand accused, but wasn’t disappointed with what happened. Looking forwards to the next installment, and I certainly recommend this one.

If this load of tripe can get published than anyone can! I establish the character’s and the tale line to be unbelievable. What planet do these people live on? A right disappointment.
