This item is accurately described in the product description – gorgeous, full-color photos of this country that I will probably never be able to afford to visit! But, I must say that this guide makes me consider trying to go there some day.

If one is looking for a comprehensive guide to the entire country, I would venture a guess that you probably can’t go very far incorrect with this handy guide which will easily fit into a backpack or purse. It is arranged by geographic area and areas of special interest along with color photos, maps and illustrations. It should be a fantastic tool for preparation your trip and even includes a pullout map in the back.

If you are preparation a trip to Costa Rica, this is an outstanding guide to the country. It has everything- a large pull out map, inside detailed maps, gorgeous pictures, tips, warnings, and fantastic coverage of the country. It is very comprehensive, with more than 600 pages, and covers everything you would possibly want to do- from the beaches, to birdwatching, volcanoes, zip lining through the treetops, and souvenir shopping.
The guide tells you which part of Costa Rica to go to for various activities, where to stay, and how to get around. It also tells you which parts of the country are more agricultural and not as appealing to visitors. The city guides including what to shop for to have unique souvenirs of the country are really fantastic. I especially like features like the photos of several birds that you are likely to see and want to identify. The photos of volcanoes and the discriptions are very exciting. The section at the back on Understanding Costa Rica tells you about the history, wildlife and plants, and has a menu guide and a vocabulary section.
In fleeting, the only travel guide you will need for a trip to Costa Rica.

I have to preface this review by stating that I’ve never been to Costa Rica, and therefore cannot vouch for the accuracy of the information in this book. I like travel books like this for countries I’ve never visited, because they let me do some armchair travel to locations I’ll probably never get to.
The “Fodor’s Costa Rica 2010″ is like a combination of the best parts of the Lonely Planet guides and the DK books. Lonely Planet is sometimes a bit sterile, missing in illustration or photography. And the DK books are gorgeous, but lack detail and information. In contrast, Fodor’s packs in a lot of useful information, along with just the right amount of photos. I’m impressed that the book is so huge for a country that is so tiny, as well. I’m inspired by this book to consider Costa Rica as a destination in the future when I plot my first Central American trip. This is well worth a buy by anyone considering visiting Costa Rica.

Just open the book to the many colorful pages and you will hunger for travel! I would give this book 5 stars just for the full color layout and bright photographs. It is a very visually appealing guidebook.
But, there are several additional aspects I loved:
-The book was divided up based on locale which is reasonably useful when preparation a trip that involves more than one city in a particular region.
-The maps appear to be reasonably comprehensive and I will look forwards to using them.
-The helpful tips, travel supplies, etc. were written very clearly and will excellent details.
-The book itself is compact and will be simple to carry when we travel.
Though I can’t vouch for the accuracy (yet), I do reflect this guidebook will be extremely useful in our trip preparation. If nothing else, my young daughter is enjoying all the photographs of the wildlife!
