The second edition of Peter Block’s Flawless Consulting kindly updates what many consider the best resource of its kind. New chapters on implementation, “whole-system” strategies, and ethics are included, but in all-purpose it simply fine-tunes Block’s proven advice to match the transformations that business and society have undergone since initial publication two decades ago. “The days of long studies and practiced-driven answers are passing,” the leader proclaims in his new preface. “The task of the consultant is increasingly to erect the capacity of clients to make their own assessments and answer their own questions.” He then subtly modifies his customary recommendations accordingly for every step, from the initial client meeting and problem diagnosis through data collection and the execution of solutions. I have just received Flawless Consulting-Fieldbook and Companion, with a cousin coming from the States, as a replacement for of Flawless Consulting A Guide to Getting Your Expertise Used (Second Edition). My first result was to have it returned in order to get what I had ordered but then, curiosity won over and I start looking at the contents and reading a few excerpts.
I want to question all persons who have read both books how they differ and what the Flawless Consulting A Guide to Getting Your Expertise Used (Second Edition)offers more. Why one should prefer to buy it over the Fieldbook and Companion.

The least amount of stars I could choose was one, otherwise I would most certainly have chosen NONE.
I had to buy this book… for an online class at HWG/IWA (where I am a member). The class was on Contracting Your Services. The book was really inappropriate and had nothing to do with web design contracts. Poorly written, with too much psycho-babbling, it could have been a 10-page paperback pamphlet with a list of pointers…
I can’t judge I bought this book, tried to read it and get something out of it. ….
To give my instructor a bit of credit, I don’t reflect there are any excellent books yet on this topic.

I could never know the hype about this book. I bought it, read it – and got nothing from it. It is generally poorly written, and offers small to nothing of any practical use. Save your money.
