Product Description
The home was top-notch New Jersey suburban. The living room was Martha Stewart. The basement was Legos–and blood. For sports agent Myron Bolitar, the disappearance of a man he’d once competed against was bringing back memories–of the sport he and Greg Downing had both played and the woman they both loved. Now, among the stars, the wanna-bes, the gamblers and groupies, Myron is unraveling the weird, violent life of a sports hero gone incorrect, and coming face-to-face with a past he can’t relive, and a present he may not survive.
In tales that crackle with wit and suspense, Edgar Award winner Harlan Coben has made one of the most fascinating and complex heroes in suspense fiction–Myron Bolitar–a hotheaded, tenderhearted sports agent who grows more and more engaging and unpredictable with each appearance.

Ok. Don’t get me incorrect. I’m a MB fan and I painstakingly delight in the clearness of Coben’s writing. Fade Away does a very excellent job of bringing out the details of the series back tale, especially with HC’s deft use of dialogue. But, I thought there were some serious holes in the tale. First, Greg was supposed to have this job driving taxis. It was an unnecessary storypoint–one that was summarily ignored during any of the investigations.
I guess I should read the MB series as thrillers rather than mysteries. HC doesn’t make a puzzle for you to solve. No clever clues to point you to the killer.
As I progress through the series, I’m finding Win to be more and more of a superfiscial prop to the tale–nothing more than a utility “black ops” mercenary. I reflect it’s rather sad to have a crutch like the Win character to rely on for nearly anything having to do with lock alternative, number tracing, or blowing off a terrible guy’s head.

series. Harlan Coben is at his best in this thriller that will place you guessing until the very end. The internal conflicts of the characters are so evident and well desribed you feel as though they are real people. I like this series, and this would have to be my favorite one yet. And in no additional book is Cobens humor more evident than this one. I have recommended this book to all my friends. So read it, already!

Being a fan of this writer for reasonably sometime needless to say I have loved all of the ‘COBEN’ books– that being said, I’d like to add that reasonably possibly, FADE AWAY might very well be my favorite tale but. Loved the whitty dialogue! You should give it a try!

I am a fan of Harlan Coben but have never read this particular series. In contrast to the majority of reviews, I establish this to be tedious rather than witty and in need of additional editing. Lame, forced dialog on top of a silly plot…even taking it for what it is, there are better ways to spend one’s time.

Ten years ago an injury finished his stint in the NBA lacking him playing one professional regular season game, but though Myron Bolitar has permanently thought of what could have been he uses self deprecating humor to go on and mope over what was lost to fate. He spent time as the most visible undercover FBI agent in the country (remember this is pre Plame days) before deciding to become a sports agent.
New Jersey Dragons owner Chip Arnstein wants to hire Myron to find his longtime sports rival going back to the sixth grade and the ACC, Greg Downing, who has had an illustrious pro career. The word to the media is he sprained his ankle; but on the street and in the Dragons front office Greg vanished five days ago. Using his not so honed FBI skills, Myron investigates with clues leading to a corpse, gambling, bold thirsty point shaving mobsters and a bit of everything else. Myron realizes he never came to grips with the injury that finished his career before it started.
The reprint of the third Bolitar tale (see DEAL BREAKER and DROPSHOT) is a superb tale that easily overcomes the initial credibility of an owner hiring a sports agent to play sleuth due to the hero. Myron is wisecracking throughout targeting himself more so than others, but as he gets closer to finding his firmer rival, he realizes the humor hides his disappointment. This is a terrific series that holds up nicely a decade plus since its first printing as this entry affirms.
