Shane Galanter is ready to place down roots after years of searching. But is he building the right choice? Or is there a woman somewhere who remembers a like that hasn’t faded with time? Lauren Gibbs is a successful international war correspondent who gave up on happily-ever-after years ago—when it was ripped away from her. So why is life so empty? Emily Anderson is a college freshman raised by her grandparents, about to take her first internship as a journalist. But before she can go yet to be, she discovers a like tale whose tragic ending came with her birth. As a result, she is drawn to look back and search out the mother she’s never met, and the father she never knew. With hallmark tenderness and power, Karen Kingsbury weaves a tapestry of life, loss, like, faith—and the miracle of resurrection.

I have read another series by Karen Kingsbury, and had a few problems with them (mostly the “fluffy” characters) but it was at least bearable. (Granted, some people like fluffy books much more than me.)
This book was very, very hard to get through. And I don’t mean it was extremely moving or well written or thought provoking. I mean, to me, it was horrible. The book was based on a set of “What if the worst that could POSSIBLY take place, happened?” It was irrational and illogical in some places. It was fluffy, but trying not to be fluffy, and openly sappy, and trying to be helpful, but leaving me with nothing but irritation. The characters were missing and annoying, an endless supply of drama and stupidity.
I really had read an article that a name had written addressing a tale alike to the one this book tells–a mom talking about what it felt like to learn her daughter was pregnant, and how they reacted to it. This article was less than five pages, but it gave me more than this whole book.
In a classic Christian way (and I’m so sad that much of our media is like this), it was a thinly veiled attempt to make me go, “Awww! They messed up but God likes them anyway–GASP! God likes me even though I mess up! My life is changed by reading 380 pages of sappiness!” Honestly, sappiness does not make me reflect of God. It makes me reflect of Orlando Bruise (no offense, O girly looking man-actor).
I left the book feeling like I wanted to strangle the characters and wondering how on planet anyone could devote more than a few days on them.
I guess this book is excellent if you like sappy fluff, but if you’re looking for a excellent, intelligent and encouraging book I encourage you to look elsewhere.

I selected this up as a single novel, as Kingsbury’s series are full of filler. The plot was excellent … and evolving well until about 3/4 through the book. Then it turns into a commercial for the Republican Party (by name), the war in Iraq and the leader’s own political views which she equates with Christianity. Terrible!

This book would be a fantastic option for a teenager, with its tale of forgiveness and its clean scenery. I, but, am not a teenager. I read this book because it was suggested to me. I of course wish that real people were like the characters in this book–loving and forgiving and all that comes with persons things–but they aren’t, so this novel just reeks of fiction. Not for one moment can you judge in the characters or their tale. Beyond that, I felt that Ms. Kingsbury tried to draw in too many political issues, whether to press her own views or just for filler information, but regardless of the reason, it was nothing fleeting of annoying.
As I said, if you’re a parent or a teenager, there might be something in this book for you, but it all felt just a small bit messy to me.

A friend loaned me the book Ever After by Karen Kinsbury and I saw it was a sequel to Even Now, which I ordered from Amazon so I could read them in order. These are the best books I’ve read in a very long time!!! I had never read anything by this leader before but I just borrowed the “R” series from a friend and I have to admit I have a new favorite leader. If you’ve never read anything by Karen Kingsbury I encourage you to start now.
