Product Description
As tools for tuning modern engines have become more powerful and sophisticated in recent years, the need for in-depth knowledge of engine management systems and tuning techniques has grown. Tuning engines can be a mysterious art, all engines need a precise balance of fuel, air, and timing in order to reach their right performance potential. This book clarifies how the EFI system determines engine operation and how the calibrator can change the controlling parameters to optimize actual engine performance. Engine Management: Advanced Tuning takes engine-tuning techniques to the next level. It is a must-have for tuners and calibrators and a valuable resource for anyone who wants to make horsepower with a fuel-injected, electronically controlled engine. Leader Greg Banish is a calibration engineer with wide aftermarket performance calibration experience. He has a BSME from GMI Engineering and Management Institute (Kettering University). With over a thousand unique calibrations performed over five years, he has worked with enthusiasts and OEMs alike to improve the performance and driving behavior of a wide range of vehicles. The book contains detailed equations, graphs, and illustrations. Also included are valuable and practical examples, including real-world examples based upon the leader’s experience that will help more advanced readers apply this new information to situations that are commonly seen during calibration.

Excellent info on the basic’s of racing engines ie… getting air in and out, ignition, turbos, data logging. The only problem is a race car is based on an optimal compromise so in order to be effective you need the whole picture of the race car an not just the engine (breaks, diff, gearing, tyres ect…)they all meet each additional and change the dynamics of their performance.

It’s not that the title said, when You enter at the point of point theme of fuel inyection the autor jump to a “lets to a professional technician” or “it’s only for practiced”. I expect more for the book, additional books are more perfect with the theme.

This book is basically like an introcduction for some additional yet to be published book, it is by no means advanced. There is a lot of introductory info and basic descriptions. If you dont know what AFR is or what a coolant sensor does, this book will help you out…but, if you sitting there with a tuning laptop in front of you hoping to get some info that will help you tune your car, this book is of small value.

This book is well organized and is full of pictures. I really loved the clear writing style of the leader. The information is agreed in a simple way, but, I want to have seen a small more focus on the theoretical side. Being an American book, Diesel engines are not covered.
