I was browsing the bookstore when this take in caught my eye. I read the back of it and figured I’d give it a try. I wish I would have known it was part of a series first. Sorry to say this book does not stand on its own well at all. There were so many characters running around that I was irritated. I establish Lore’s newly learned brothers especially irritating. I suppose if I had read their books first I would have had some investment in them and might have been glad to read about them again. Obviously that wasn’t the case with me.
Lore can kill with a touch (even inadvertently) which makes it very awkward for him to have the sex that he needs to keep his rage down. He’s also bound to Deth as an assassin until he completes his 100th kill. His last kill is assigned to him and this time he isn’t agreed the option to say no. Deth also gives him a time limit that he has to perfect his last kill by or his sister, Sin, will die. Needless to say he’s determined to kill the guy even though it will place him at odds with his brothers.
While trying to take out his target he comes into contact with Idess. She’s basically an angel-in-waiting and guards people who have an vital destiny until she finally makes it to heaven. One of the people that Idess is assigned to guard is the very same person that Lore has to kill. Idess and Lore have several confrontations until Idess gets the upper hand. Sorry to say for Idess another one of the people she has to protect is in danger too. She ends up very busy trying to keep all of her charges safe.
Idess and Lore seem to have excellent chemistry together. There’s nice sexual tension between them and their dialogue together is amusing. I reflect if more time had been spent on developing them and their relationship I would have been more pleased. I could never forget that they had known each additional a matter of days when they were overcome with like. There was way too much page time devoted to additional characters and it certainly impacted the believability of the main character’s romance for me.
The type of book this was and tone of it really reminded me of Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. I reflect if you delight in persons books you might like these ones too. I’d certainly recommend starting with the first one though.
I don’t reflect I’ll read any more in this series. I’m mildly interested in Sin’s tale but I reflect I would be just as lost to all the previous book references in that one as I was in this one. It really pulls you out of the tale when you’re constantly wondering what everyone is talking about.

Appealing premise: alternate modern day with strong fantasy fundamentals, where both the leading man and the leading women are in a quandary. He is enslaved magically and being forced to kill K– or his sister will die. She is magically obliged to protect both K– and the leading man, which orders are naturally in conflict. Steamy attraction, some very graphic sex.
My problems with this book centered on the overabundance of references to previous books: point-of-view from previous characters, continuing past plots, lots of time devoted to establishing the next novel’s plotline, red herring fundamentals proposed to remind you of the previous novel, etc. All of this extra fluff detracted from the current book’s plotline, and took way, way too much time away from the leading man & woman.
Highly enjoyable nonetheless, and well worth the buy fee. It can be read in isolation.

The tale of Idess and Lore went beyond all my expectations. This book was so excellent I devoured it like fine chocolate! The tale was phenomenal – it had everything – forbidden like, loss and ultimately the pleased ending. I was lost in this tale and wanted it to go one forever. I like all the brothers, but Lore was the one who touched my heart the most. He had no direction, no tie and felt he was only excellent at killing – until he met Idess who showed him what the like of an angel could do. And when he thought she was gone forever and he fell to his knees and ongoing screaming, I thought my heart would break. I can’t say enough about this book. This one was the best in the series.
I cannot wait until Sin and Con come together in what I am sure will be an EXPLOSIVE union. Con is most yummy.

Here’s a weird thought Catherine.
Before giving an leader a 2 star review due to you not reading previous books in the series…..how about doing the right thing by a published writer and read the series and then give a honest review not one based only on the fact that you did not read 3 earlier books thus the leader must be terrible enough for 2 stars. Check out 33 reviews from ppl who did read the series.
Very unfair review on your part.
