The information is excellent but the authors writing style is terrible. He repeats the same thing over and over in what seems to be in an attempt to make the book longer. This book could have been half the size it is if he didn’t repeat himself. It also makes you feel as if you are screwed being the adult if you didn’t eat perfectly your whole life. Wouldn’t recommend this book.

At first I liked this book. And then I was thrown a loop in life and my kid developed intolerances to gluten, casein, and soy. It forced me to reconsider what healthy eating is.
I will start by reviewing the recipes in the book. I have only tried a handful and have met with small to no success. Either the recipe didn’t work or my unpicky children would not eat it. For my family tree the meals were not balanced enough. I’m sure he would be miserable to know that I had to add “meat” to his recipes for them to work.
He does give many truths in the book. For example, red meat causes cancer. He does not give the whole truth but. It is undigested red meat. Rather than suggesting you fully cook your meat and eat it in moderation he goes to an extreme. Every person is different. My family tree needs a lot more meat and substance in our diet to be pleased and healthy. We are not terrible people for it and not unhealthy as he would lead you to judge.
There are several extremist diets out there. This is the opposite extreme as Atkins but an extreme none the less. I would suggest reading Michael Pollan as a replacement for. This diet will work for a few I’m sure. But it will place many unsatisfied.
Every mom knows in her heart what is best for her family tree. You do not need Dr. Joel Fuhrman to tell you. Listen to your heart and, to quote Pollan, “eat food, not too much, mostly vegetables.”

I bought this book with fantastic anticipation, and I was SORELY disappointed. One of my children has a severe (life-threatening) nut allergy, and most of the recipes/meal plans are filled with nuts. Since the leader uses nuts as a main source of protein and doesn’t offer nut-free alternatives, this book was basically useless to me.

This book puts into the world many, many convincing opinion for feeding children a mostly plant-based diet. I don’t doubt that this would be extremely beneficial for my kids.
The chapter on how to really accomplish this seemed insufficient to me. The advice boiled down to: just do it. Don’t feed your kids unhealthy food, don’t even have it in the house, and they’ll have no choice but to eat their veggies. Perhaps this would work, but I don’t feel able to follow this advice at this time. I have two-year-ancient twin boys, and I am regularly by myself. It’s hard enough even to follow the routine as it stands now.
Perhaps a name with a more manageable situation could “just do it.” My plot is to try a bit later, when I can reason with them a bit more (perhaps rewarding them for trying new things, and the like).
In the meantime, this book has made me feel constantly guilty about the diet I feed my children. I do keep trying to get them to eat vegetables, but of course, if they have a choice they choose something else.
I suppose I’d recommend this book with the caveat that for most people, eating this way would be a major change.

This book is about feeding your child a healthy diet. It could be the best thing you ever do for your child. If you are not familiar with Dr. Fuhrman’s work, I recommend also reading his book Eat to Live. Dr Fuhrman is a real life practicing physician who has studied scientific research and understands the long term effect of eating a healthy diet as a child. Wish this book had been available for my parents to read when I was a child!
