Product Description
Doc Ford wrestles more than one kind of demon, in the stunning novel from the New York Times-bestselling leader.
Many dangers lurk in the deep-the worst of them are human.
Thirty minutes into what should have been an simple, beginner-level dive in a remote Florida lake, the rim of a cave collapses, trapping two of Doc Ford’s friends. Ford himself manages to escape and quickly surfaces to find help-but that’s when his troubles only start.
Two men are waiting for him on the shore, and they are not the kind of men you want to meet at any time. Murderers and ex-cons, they’re intent on diving to the bottom of the very deep lake and uncovering the remains of a legendary plane wreck there, supposedly loaded with Cuban treasury gold. Ford’s expertise is just what they need. And if he doesn’t want to help? He can die. His friends? They can die, too. In fact, they can die right now. . . .
As the hours tick away, two mortal struggles unfold simultaneously, one above and one not more than. Neither outcome is certain, no man is safe . . . and in the deep shadow, only death awaits.

A slight improvement on White’s previous work, Dead Silence, but still not up to any of the rest of the series. The Native American youth, Will Chaser is back, but is stuck underwater with small or no air in central Florida for most of the book as is Tomlinson. Meanwhile, Doc Ford is bested again and again by two moronic killers while he frantically and feebly tries to rescue his companions. What happened to the super well-organized and ruthless protagonist that White used to write about? This book could have been a fleeting tale or tale but strains to be a full part work. If you must, check it out at the library before you buy. I did and it won’t be going on my bookshelf.

Wow, I couldnt even end this book. I like this leader and the Doc Ford novels, but, this book had page after page after page of mind numbing DETAILS. I mean pages and pages of telling the same thing over and over from a different perspective which lent absolutely nothing to the tale. I may read the last 15 pages to see how it ends up, but honestly if I lost the book I wouldnt care. I am not sure how this book is getting 5 star reviews, maybe I just like more action.. Which this book does not have.

I am a huge Doc Ford fan. I’ve read all the books and preorder new releases. Doc and the cast of oddball characters along with the culture of Sanibel have permanently been very entertaining. Add a mystery plot, and the books have been fantastic. No more.
Lacking being a spoiler — there’s nothing much to spoil anyway — the extent of this latest book is — Doc and some friends are having a very terrible day that involves some terrible guys and a terrible critter at a terrible locale — 353 pages later with no changes in locale, or the cast of excellent guys, terrible guys, or critters, the day gets better. And, of course, anyone would know that it had to get better if White plans to publish another Doc Ford book, because neither Ford nor Tomlinson could get killed off. This book was a huge disappointment.

I have read — and loved — every Doc Ford novel until this one.
In the first eighteen (18) chapters, RWW does not go the peanut even an inch across the floor.
I like the characters — Doc Ford, Tomlinson, Arlis Futch, and Will Chaser — but chapter after chapter none of these characters does anything and we learn nothing new.
Deep Shadow is an OK read for die-hard RWW fans.
For new readers of the Randy Wayne White Doc Ford series, start with the first in the series, Sanibel Flats. Read the Doc Ford novels in order and you will have a wonderful reading experience.
