When a new NASA satellite spots evidence of an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory…a victory that has profound implications for U.S. space policy and the impending presidential election. With the Oval Office in the balance, the President dispatches White House Intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton to the Milne Ice Shelf to verify the authenticity of the find. Accompanied by a team of experts, including the charismatic literary Michael Tolland, Rachel uncovers the unthinkable: evidence of scientific trickery — a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy.
But before Rachel can contact the President, she and Michael are attacked by a deadly team of assassins controlled by a mysterious power broker who will stop at nothing to hide the truth. Fleeing for their lives in an environment as forbidding as it is lethal, their only hope for survival is to find out who is behind this masterful ploy. The truth, they will learn, is the most shocking deception of all.
In his most thrilling novel to date, bestselling leader Dan Brown transports readers from the ultrasecret National Reconnaissance Office to the towering ice shelves of the Arctic Circle, and back again to the hallways of power inside the West Wing. Heralded for masterfully intermingling science, history, and politics in his critically acclaimed thriller Angels & Demons, Brown has crafted another novel in which nothing is as it seems — and behind every confront is a stunning surprise. Deception Point is pulse-pounding fiction at its best.Amazon.com Review
Penzler Pick, December 2001: In the world of page-turning thrillers, Dan Brown holds a special place in the hearts of many of us. After his first book, Digital Fortress, nearly passed me by, he wrote Angels and Demons, which was probably one of the half-dozen most exciting thrillers of last year. It is a pleasure to report that his new book lives up to his reputation as a writer whose research and talent make his tales exciting, believable, and just unadorned unputdownable.
The time is now and President Zachary Herney is facing a very tough reelection. His opponent, Senator Sedgwick Sexton, is a powerful man with powerful friends and a mission: to lower NASA’s spending and go space exploration into the private sector. He has copious supporters, including many beyond the businesses who will profit from this because of the embarrassment of 1996, when the Clinton administration was informed by NASA that proof existed of life on additional planets. That information turned out to be premature, if not incorrect. (This tale is right; I repeat, Dan Brown’s research is very, very excellent.) The embattled president is assured that a rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice will prove to have far-reaching implications on America’s space program. The find, but, needs to be verified.
Enter Rachel Sexton, a gister for the National Reconnaissance Office. Gisters lower complex reports into single-page briefs, and in this case the president needs that confirmation before he broadcasts to the nation, probably ensuring his reelection. It’s tough because Rachel is the daughter of his opponent. Rachel is tickled to be on the team traveling to the Arctic circle. She is a pragmatist about her father’s politics and has small respect for his stand on NASA, but Senator Sexton cannot help but have a problem with her involvement.
Adventure, romance, murder, skullduggery, and nail-biting tension ensue. By the end of Deception Point, the reader will be much better informed about how our space program works and how our politicians react to new information. Bring on the next Dan Brown thriller! –Otto Penzler

A handful of friends told me to read “Angels and Demons” before reading “The DaVinci Code” because it sets the stage.
I guess I don’t know Dan Brown’s theater, because “Angels and Demons” is a stage filled with cardboard characters, a one-dimensional plot, and a trite conclusion.
Only the frequent vignettes of ecclesiastic and medieval erudition saved this book from sailing across the room into the trash basket.

Ahhh, I didn’t really like this book. It didn’t really interest me in any way. I didn’t really find the characters that cool or identifiable (b/c I don’t know anyone in politics). Anyway, I kind of just skimmed some of the book, b/c I could care less about some of the ocean biology and equipment they have down there. Just not that appealing to me, and Dan Brown’s books are apt to formulatic to me (I’ve read all of them). I don’t reflect I like this leader anymore. It’s cheap thrills, and I don’t get anything out of them.

Deception Point Review by Tom Leonard
For me, the mark of a “excellent” teacher is to make his information appealing and provocative so that his
students want to learn. The mark of a “fantastic” teacher goes beyond “excellent.” A “fantastic’ teacher also makes you
“want’ to learn more on your own.
For me, the mark of a “fantastic” writer is a fantastic tale, appealing information, a “you can’t place down the
book until the end,” and he also makes me “want” to learn more on my own about the theme matter.
Dan Brown has done it again. First it was “Digital Fortress,” and then it was “Angels & Demons,” and now it is “Deception Point.” What a “fantastic” teacher and writer. I have learned so much from every one of his fantastic pieces of writing. I have spent many hours looking up every bit of information on the Internet. Every bit of informationin “Deception Point” I have really establish on the Internet. What an education!!!!

Being a PADI Divemaster and PADI Masterdiver, the oceans and lakes have permanently been very appealing to me, since I have really been diving under the ice, at night, in wrecks and in caves. I like to go out to the shooting range and shoot trap and skeet, so all the high tech stuff is also of interest for me. I like tennis (I am a ex- ATP touring tennis professional), skiing , flying quick, fantastic books, I do the crossword every day, and I especially like trying to figure out Dan Browns codes. And if you haven’t bought the hard bound copies with the jackets or solved all the codes, you really haven’t gotten the whole tale. The jackets on “Digital Fortress,” and “Angels & Demons” both have part of the tale somewhere on it. So, once again, Dan Brown has done it again for me.

I assumed when I bought this book I was purchasing a novel with a tale line that would entertain me along with stretching my imagination… you know …a novel. Nope, not what I got! What I got was a never ending, liberal bias view of his definition of any and all Republicans. His bias is both trite and infuriating. After less then 100 pages I threw the book out. I’m out eight bucks, but my gain was I now know to never buy another Dan Brown book.
