Oh is it terribly written and open!
It goes like this: Here is a huge number of gods dumped on your head in total chaos, none of whom have one charming characteristic, not one tale is worth a dang because they aren’t lucid, and you really ought to be reading Bulfinch as a replacement for.

The drawings are superb. The tales are accurate,but the depiction of Andromeda was horrible. Andromeda was an Ethiopian woman, not a caucasian woman. It was a terrible representation on their part.

I wanted a book like this for myself and to educate my kids. The reviews were glowing, but I establish the illustrations to be weak. They are plentiful, but they don’t appeal to me. The take in art is the pinacle of the quality. I feel a bit silly, because I usually do reasonably a bit of research. I guess this was an IIB–Internet impulse buy.
Oh well, I am keeping the book because the text is informative.

I gave this book only 2 stars because I wanted to learn a lot more about Greek mythology – but the tales were confusing and I establish it hard to keep the characters straight. I have read reviews that said this book was fantastic for children, but I am not so sure of that. There is a lot of sexual hanky-panky between brothers and sisters and some additional characters that even as an adult gave me intermission. The illustrations were disappointing, I didn’t like the artists’ styles at all. I thought they were too primative – but, this is a matter of personal taste. I know from the jacket blurb that this was a right labor of like for the authors who drew the pictures and wrote the text with painstaking research. I am very sorry to give this such a mediocre review – but I honestly don’t reflect any kid would delight in this and it takes reasonably a bit of work for an adult to even know a lot of it. I kept putting the book down because of this, and it took me weeks to read it. I usually can end a book easily in a week. I selected this book precisely because I hoped it would clarify Greek mythology in an idiot-proof, simple way, but it was intricate — and perhaps that is just the scenery of the beast!

I bought this from Barnes and Nobel for under 30 dollars. the fee they have for the cd version is ludicrous.
