Detective Alex Cross pursues the most ruthless killer he’s ever encountered-to a land of sheer terror and back. It’s the worst crime scene Alex Cross has ever seen, and then more killings, each one more ruthless than the last, quickly follow. After one death comes terrifyingly close to home, Alex realizes he’s chasing a horrible new breed of killer.
Digging deeper into the case, Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, uncover a shocking Washington, D.C., underworld: a gang of teenage thugs headed by a warlord known only as the Tiger. When the Tiger’s elusive trail turns up in Africa, Alex knows that he must follow. Defenseless and alone, can Alex manage to both survive and catch the killer?

i have read all of mr. pattersons books and very regularly i have been disapointed because of fleeting chapters and dual writers. when mr. patterson writes on his own he is a wonderful leader. this is one of his best works in a long time

My Mom had bought me this book for Christmas and with school in session I really didn’t want to read a 400 page book while taking classes. But since its spring break and I exhausted my additional options I chose to pick up a few books agreed to me for my birthday and Christmas and give ‘em a read. I was hesitant to read “Cross Country” – simply because it was longer than my additional books that I wanted to read. Over the weekend I read a few of Richard Bach’s books (and loved them “The Illusionist and Jonathan Livingston Seagull”) as well as “Keep Going” by Joseph Marshall III. Anyway, I’m not into reading but I felt compelled to read the books agreed to me as presents – so I ongoing Cross Country. I plotted to read it for a few days but once I selected it up I couldn’t place it down!
I ongoing reading it this morning and just finished it and I loved it. I haven’t read any of Patterson’s additional novels but I’m about to order a few. From a name who was ill informed I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything from previous novels – until the last line (which I googled to find out it’s meaning).
Throughout the book I felt “rushed” in a excellent way. I like how the chapters are only 3 pages long – it made me reflect of it more as a movie with each chapter being a scene. I loved the characters a lot and the different places where the book took place.
I didn’t feel that it was “overly violent” as additional reviewers had said. I really didn’t even reflect that there was too much violence – but then again I like persons types of of books – it wasn’t much worse than The Kite Runner, in my opinion.
Besides that I really loved it and thought it was really fantastic. This is the first book review that I’ve done and I didn’t want to divulge anything about the book – cause it was THAT excellent.
Hope this helped.

I am a huge fan of Patterson and delight in reading his works. This novel reveals a different side of Alex Cross, one where he seeks out his “roots” and the adventures/tragedies that occur along the way. It is a right page-turner, non-stop suspense tale line and a learning experience as well. The “real” Africa is graphically described so vividly you feel you are really there!

Although this is far from your ‘predictable’ Alex Cross book (most of the book takes place with Alex in Africa) I still establish this book rather entertaining. If you are first time Patterson reader or have not read any books in the Alex Cross series I suggest you start with the first books in the series (Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls, etc —Patterson’s best books). I did delight in this book and read it in one day. The fact that most of the book took place in Africa captured my attention and held onto it throughout the entire book. Don’t let the terrible reviews choose for you if you like this book….pick it up and choose for yourself.
