Product Description
Creativity is about capturing persons moments that make life worth living. The leader’s objective is to offer an understanding of what leads to these moments, be it the excitement of the artist at the easel or the scientist in the lab, so that knowledge can be used to enrich people’s lives. Drawing on 100 interviews with exceptional people, from biologists and physicists to politicians and business leaders, poets and artists, as well as his 30 years of research on the theme, Csikszentmihalyi uses his legendary theory to explore the creative process. He discusses such thoughts as why creative individuals are regularly seen as selfish and arrogant, and why the tortured genius is largely a myth. Most vital, he clearly clarifies why creativity needs to be cultivated and is necessary for the future of our country, if not the world.

Creativity is what we need more of in the 21st Century. It is hard to break out of the rut of habitual, conventional thinking. That is why I recommend reading and re-reading and effective through the exercises in at least 7 creativity books per year. Csikszentmihalyi is certainly an leader to include in a creativity project, so I recommend this book. And don’t forget to keep doing your DeBono creative thinking exercises !!

What a brilliant book.
FINALLY, all of societies misfits have a reference tome, and business leaders can start to spot the personalities that make up effective creatives before they view a single composition.
I must say that the Associative Thinking process (using a central word, axiom or image to stimulate a train of thining in an individual) was to some extent glossed-over in the book.
But as an effective aid, this is essential reading. A peek inside the minds of real, living, breathing creatives is 10x as powerful some hypothetical creativity exercise.
Delight in!

On the way out the door one morning a couple of years ago on my way to substitute teach, I grabbed this book from the shelf and stuck it in my bookbag, knowing that there would probably be some silent time for reading at some point during the day. My spouse, whose taste in books I respect absolutely, had selected up a copy of it at some point, no doubt to aid him on his creative path. It’s a excellent book to carry if you expect to be waiting in a line or for a bus, or as I was, sitting between classes and trying to bury myself in something additional than perfect boredom. I wouldn’t recommend it as a highly energetic and motivating read, but it’s a nice meld of psychology, reality, and ‘trivia,’to focus on something edifying if you’re in a relatively uninteresting environment.
