Inspirational art book. Gorgeous art. Adam Hughes is amusing as all heck. Hope one day a name releases a book of his perfect works, Marvel and all else included with the DC take in art. And Mr. Hughes, include a picture of yourself too Sir. Thanks for the laughs and fantastic art.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt I had to with this. This book is GORGEOUS! I also ordered the Alex Ross Rough Justice, and while that was excellent, THIS is AMAZING! Obviously, the art is incredible, but it is also his commentary and musings that reels you in. It’s like he is having a conversation with the reader, offering insight and memories for each take in. The only negative aspect to this book is that I wish it had a full page blow up of all his covers. Vol. 2, perhaps? Get this book!

I’m a huge fan of Adam Hughes.
He can draw women so well, and this book is a fantastic collection of the covers he’s done for DC.
I was surpised to see his early works, he has fantastic improved as a artist over the time.

I was biting at the bit to get this book ever since it became available for pre-order. I received my copy today, and I nearly died with the sheer joy of everything that was packed into a glossy 205 pages. Covers are seen side-by-side with sketches and mock-ups for color studies, and include his own feelings and insights about each. His ability to write so conversationally makes this book not only a joy to read but an immeasurable tool for up-and-coming artists. He throws tiny tips and helpful hints about how he constructs an image about every 2 covers, which means in a weird way this is as much a learning/teaching tool as it is just a gorgeous set of his DC Covers.
My only complaint is that not every single take in (even the obscure dc ones) were full-size in the book, but I guess we’ll have to wait until he gets the nerve to give us another gorgeous art book? (Note to Adam: A Hardcover collection of your con sketchbooks and development studies, please?

I have been a fan of Adam Hughes’ artwork for a long time and it’s a real treat to see his DC comic book covers nicely reproduced in this art book. It is also a treat to see the preliminary sketches and read his commentary on his work. Not only is he a fantastic artist, but he also has a fantastic sense of humor and reading this book was just as much fun as looking through it. I would have loved to see more of his covers reproduced in black/white (right next to the final colored versions) to be able to appreciate his inking/rendering techniques, but that is just a personal inclination. This is a fantastic book and I would recommend it to anyone who has loved Adam Hughes’ work in comics.
