The take in led me to judge that I was buying a book with up todate informative techniques for modern couture. Alas, the contents was very ancient fashioned dating back to the 1950, 60 and 70. So it was a bit of a waste of money. The take in was deceiving.

really this book is a perfect…
the flaw is the illustration is not much…and the words are like written all in sub-chapter…it’s not like a handbook…
i reflect for sewing books, illustration is vital…

The single most required item on a theme should sumarize within it all that you need to gain mastery over its domain. This book enables that, for one who is interested in raveling* the gems strewn about, glittering merely for the eye to catch. *(Raveling, incidentally, is defined in the book, as same meaning as unraveling. There’s much more there – this book is a precise compendium of knowledge on a very esoteric theme – revealed masterfully and in a most accessable manner.)

The book reviews the history of haute couture and clarifies why haute couture products are so expensive and how you can distinguish hand-sewn haute couture product from ready-to-wear.
It also introduces hand-sewing techniques, some construction/pattern building thoughts and how to sew some fundamentals of a garment. Drawings illustrate techniques and sewing of some fundamentals, photos give overview of construction of the item.
But, such outline makes it a mix of sewing and construction which is hard to read and know. I would recommend to buy a decent pattern-building book and a excellent sewing book as a replacement for (only thing you might miss is the fabric pattern matching in hard places i.e. Schiaparelli’s Circus jacket).
