The tale of a small stuffed bear who nervously waits for a family tree, and the small girl who spends her own money to buy him.Amazon.com Review
Have you ever dreamed of being locked in a department store at night? The endearing tale of Corduroy paints a picture of the adventures that might unfold (for a teddy bear at least) in such a situation. When all the shoppers have gone home for the night, Corduroy climbs down from the shelf to look for his missing button. It’s a courageous new world! He accidentally gets on an elevator that he thinks must be a mountain and sees the furniture section that he thinks must be a palace. He tries to pull a button off the mattress, but he ends up falling off the bed and knocking over a lamp. The night watchman hears the crash, finds Corduroy, and puts him back on the shelf downstairs. The next morning, he finds that it’s his lucky day! A small girl buys him with money she saved in her piggy bank and takes him home to her room. Corduroy decides that this must be home and that Lisa must be his friend. Youngsters will never get tired of this toy-comes-alive tale with a pleased ending, so you may also want to seek out Dan Freeman’s next creation, A Pocket for Corduroy. (Ages 3 to

ATROCIOUS! I will NEVER buy ANYTHING again from DVD Legacy – They haven’t gotten me my book or agreed me any sufficient update on when I should (if ever) expect. I am furious as I have sent them 5 sincere emails asking when I shall receive a baby gift I expected a month ago which was a present for a new addition to the family tree. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY – They are unprofessional HACKS!

When I first stumbled upon this product I thought it was a board book of the original Corduroy tale. On the website when I establish the original (which is what I wanted) it had a link adage they also had this in board book form. So that’s what I thought I was getting. I wanted board book for my 4-month-ancient son because they are more durable. But it’s really a book based on the character of Corduroy. Its’ a dull tale listing things Corduroy did that day. It jumps from one thing to the additional and isn’t really a tale at all but rather a list of random errands. I was disappointed to say the least.

At our house we don’t read just at bedtime–which means we read dozens of books a day. I was looking to add to our bookshelf in the area of beloved favorites. From the evocative reviews I thought I had a winner in Corduroy but alas neither the one reading nor the listeners seem to be as as enchanted as I was hoping. It is just an okay book.
There are positive aspects worth mentioning. We have adopted 3 dark skinned children so the main characters shiny the same also added to the plus column for me. For small ones there is a bit of adventure with nothing scary. It ends on a pleased note. For 5 to 7 year olds beginning to read on their own the text on each page is limited and the picture depicts the text. The red take in makes it simple to spot on the bookshelf which will help to identify it quickly if it is a favorite.

I like to include this book for gifts at a baby shower. Reading is such a special time for parent and child. The tale has a message that is excellent for both the child and the parent.
