Product Description
At the end of her bestselling memoir Eat, Pray, Like, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in like with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who’d been living in Indonesia when they met. Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each additional, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. (Both were survivors of previous terrible divorces. Enough said.) But providence intervened one day in the form of the United States government, which—after unexpectedly detaining Felipe at an American border crossing—gave the couple a choice: they could either get married, or Felipe would never be allowed to enter the country again. Having been effectively sentenced to wed, Gilbert tackled her fears of marriage by delving into this topic completely, trying with all her might to learn through past research, interviews, and much personal reflection what this stubbornly enduring ancient institution really is. Told with Gilbert’s trademark wit, intelligence and compassion, Committed attempts to “turn on all the lights” when it comes to matrimony, frankly examining questions of compatibility, infatuation, fidelity, family tree tradition, social expectations, divorce risks and humbling responsibilities. Gilbert’s memoir is ultimately a clear-eyed celebration of like with all the complexity and consequence that real like, in the real world, really entails.

Do yourselves a favor…forget Elizabeth Gilbert. Last night I saw Elizabeth speak in Miami, I was really looking forwards to hearing her. This came to an abrupt end when she started her talk by denigrating Sarah Palin. Liz…you’re not going to get yet to be by continuing to be so self indulgent and putting additional people down. She then went on to complain about Homeland Security. Reasonably frankly, I’ll take our Homeland security over any additional security options! And her facts on marriage…a rookie wouldn’t even make the mistakes on the facts Liz does!! What is your message afterall…more importantly…who cares!!

I am baffled by the attraction to this leader… though I did delight in the eating in Italy. The like tale is just food for the lonely and then…bam. reality hits. and it isn’t very appealing.

What happened to Elizabeth Gilbert? I seriously have no thought what she was thinking when she wrote this book. I wasn’t expecting another Eat Pray Like, but, I was expecting something worth reading. Frankly, what was she thinking? HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I returned the book after reading the first 100 pages.
