I happily utilized this concise and well written Lonely Plant Guide this summer (July 2009)traveling 20 days throughout the land of the emerald forests. It helped me find some terrific hotels and the information was reasonably reliable. Que siguen con el buen trabajo

This book was very hit or miss – some sections were obviously well done – others included locations or sites that were clogged or no longer around – just a sign that certain of the researchers were less than highly motivated.

I’ve used Lonely Planet guides on and off over the years, and most of the time they are decent. This one wasn’t. It was agreed to me by a name leaving and finished up being burned for heat. It wasn’t even worth passing on.
The two main problems are that it either lacks information entirely or has information that is fake. Case in point, it says to negotiate for your long distance bus fairs. No one does this, it would have been akin to negotiating for the cost of your entre in a US restaurant.
Colombia was fantastic, just get a different guide. Or if you are a Lonely Plante die hard, go to a different country.

I went to Colombia last week (Cartagena and the Caribbean Coast) and establish this book to be really missing. I have a like/despise relationship with Lonely Planet, but this was the first time that one of their guides completely let me down. As a name else noted, a couple of days is plenty to see Cartagena. Also, for an edition that is less than a year ancient, I establish the fee listings for hotels and hostels wildly inaccurate. Hotels listed for $40000 COP would really be $80000 COP. The section on Playa Blanca mentioned the beach as excellent for snorkeling due to a reef right off the beach. Absolutely untrue, visibility was zero in most parts and when it wasn’t there was nothing to see. Moon or Rough Guide next trip for me.

Just got back from a trip from Colombia, and really thought this was an above-average Lonely Planet. I’ve used LP more than I like to admit, and this one was really one of my favorites. It was so positive on Colombia as a whole – Colombia has such a terrible reputation within the US, and I establish the LP”s overall country coverage to be so upbeat and positive that it rubbed off on me.
All of the not more than reviewers complain that this LP is a terrible one. And perhaps it is a bit of out of date in some sections, or their coverage of additional cities/destinations is off, but we really didn’t experience either of these. Granted, we only really hit the more well loved tourist destinations, so perhaps, the coverage was worse in additional areas. But overall, I establish it to be a fantastic guide, with the only complaint that the destination coverage seemed a bit less detailed (less hotel, restaurant and nightlife recommendations per destinations) than it is for additional countries, and we establish the section on Parque Tayrona to make it sound far more confusing that it really was. But nevertheless, I’d still recommend it. I’d be surprised if there are many guides that are better for Colombia.
