The National Book Critics Circle Award-winning leader of The Reformation returns with the definitive history of Christianity for our time
Once in a generation a historian will redefine his meadow, producing a book that demands to be read-a product of electrifying erudition conveyed with commanding skill. Diarmaid MacCulloch’s Christianity is such a book. Breathtaking in ambition, it ranges back to the origins of the Hebrew Bible and covers the world, following the three main strands of the Christian faith.
Christianity will teach modern readers things that have been lost in time about how Jesus’ message spread and how the New Tribute was formed. We follow the Christian tale to all corners of the globe, filling in regularly neglected accounts of conversions and confrontations in Africa and Asia. And we learn the roots of the faith that galvanized America, charting the rise of the evangelical movement from its origins in Germany and England. This book encompasses all of intellectual history-we meet monks and crusaders, heretics and saints, slave traders and abolitionists, and learn Christianity’s essential role in driving the enlightenment and the age of exploration, and shaping the course of World War I and World War II.
We are living in a time of tremendous religious awareness, when both believers and non-believers are deeply engaged by questions of religion and tradition, seeking to know the violence sometimes perpetrated in the name of God. The son of an Anglican clergyman, MacCulloch writes with deep feeling about faith. His last book, The Reformation, was chosen by dozens of publications as Best Book of the Year and won the National Book Critics Circle Award. This awe-inspiring follow-up is a landmark new history of the faith that continues to shape the world.

With the fee cut-rate to 9.99 I bought this book and I am delighted with it although I have only just ongoing reading. I also bought the audio version for my go back and into the world….
While this topic is a long time interest of mine I will not pay a publisher who fee gouges ebooks.
There are plenty of additional things to read – and at some point in the future I will get this book on discount.

When I paid $359 for Kindle, part of my rationalization for the expense was that at least the books would be less expensive.I guess I thought incorrect as the prices of books,as the cost of this volume demonstates, saves very small money.I might as well buy the book!

Why is the Kindle Fee as expensive as the Hardcover? This is ridiculous! I need this book to be portable on my contrivance, and if I own it as a Hardcover, I should really be allowed the Kindle version free.
In any case I am willing to pay for the Kindle version too, but this is obscenely expensive.

Since I bought my kindle a few months after they came out, I have read about three times as many books as I did before. One vital element was the $9.99 fee ceiling. This book is nearly as expensive as a hardcover and I will not buy it. The publisher made a terrible mistake with it’s pricing.

Had to have it just by the title~and
the heard-segment on it on NPR.
As received, a quick scan reveals what
appears to to be a full treatment of
the three thousand years as advertized.
So, it goes on my reference-book shelf
to consult on point time-periods and
events within.
A front to back reading
will have to wait until I am bed-quick,
if ever, but I am glad to have such a
tome at hand. Fee as “used” was a
plus.
