Welcome to Fool’s Gold, California, a charming community in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. There’s lots to do and plenty of people to meet, especially women. Because there’s just one tiny problem in Fool’s Gold: the men don’t seem to stick around. Maybe it’s the lure of huge-city life, or maybe it’s unadorned ancient terrible luck, but regardless of the reason, the problem has to be fixed, quick. And Charity Jones may be just the city planner to do it.
Charity’s nomadic childhood has left her itching to settle down, and she immediately falls in like with all the storybook town has to offer—everything, that is, except its sexiest and most legendary resident, ex- world-class cyclist Josh Golden. With her long list of romantic disasters, she’s not about to take a chance on another terrible boy, even if everyone else thinks he’s perfect just the way he is. But maybe that’s just what he needs—a name who knows the value of his flaws. A name who knows that he’s just chasing perfect.

I am the first in line when Susan Mallery’s book come out, but I agree with the additional reviewer, it was a small dull. I was not really interested in Josh or Charity, maybe because they were a small too unbelievably nice and there was no real conflict. It was an ok read and I will continue to read her and hopefully the next book will be better. Hot on Her Heels it was not!

After yet another terrible relationship, Charity takes a job in a tiny northern California town. As city planner – her first order of business is learning a way to attract more menfolk to the town, since the women outnumber the men in droves. She soon catches the attention of hometown hero Josh Golden, who has recently retired from profession bicycle racing after a fatal manufacturing accident wreaks havoc on his nerves. As her pursues her, she is not sure if she wants to be one of the crowd, but soon discovers that there is more to Josh than the golden image. And as she discovers, living in a tiny town can be hard when everyone knows what is going on.
Susan Mallery can permanently be counted on to tell an engaging and romantic tale. Her characters are never perfect, and they are people that you would want to get to know. Interspersed with her trademark romance are odd town residents (and plenty of them in this tale), and she permanently manages to pull on my heart strings. I despise to end one of her books because I just want the tale to continue. Luckily I won’t have to wait long, as there are two more tales set in Fools Gold to keep me coming back.

Pretty excellent read. I liked Charity and Josh (even though at times they had me shaking my head) and Josh being a cyclist was appealing and a new one for me. I could see Charity as a name I would be friends with is she were real or I were fictional (which is something I permanently look for in any heroine). I could see myself falling in lust with Josh (also something I look for). The best part of the book was Fool’s Gold, the tiny town where the book was set. The town had the requisite odd characters, the gossip, and the quaintness. I was nearly more interested in the townspeople than the main characters.
I do have one complaint. There were too many things going on around the main characters that was distracting. Some of the subplots fizzled for me and didn’t have the impact I reflect they were meant to have.
I would recommend this book to readers who like romance novels set in Tiny Town, USA.

I gave this book only a 4 out of 5 because (to me) nothing beats Falling for Gracie. That said, I loved the tale fine. It was realistic. The herione didn’t get mad about petty stuff like a lot of authors do in their books. Her insecurities were real and founded. I could identify.

Charity Jones has her work cut out for her. Taking the job as a city planner for the town of Fool’s Gold, California seemed like a excellent thought at the time. Fool’s Gold seems to have all the fundamentals to be successful, from the fantastic location to charming residents. The only problem seems to be a shortage of men. Whether it’s a lack of appeal that keeps men from staying, or a curse that no one knows about, it presents a real problem. Now everyone is hoping Charity’s desire to make Fool’s Gold her home will bring the solution the town so desperately needs.
Ex- world-class cyclist Josh Golden likes his hometown. He is able to run his multiple businesses, has his pick of women, and the all-purpose support of everyone around him, yet no one is able to see the truth behind his façade except Charity. From the moment Charity and Josh meet there is an particular desire and silent trust between them and both fight it every step of the way. When life throws them an unexpected turn will they overcome their fears in order to erect a future together?
Susan Mallery makes a charming world in Chasing Perfect. It has a perfect blend of clever characters, secondary storylines and enough twists in the plot to keep the pages turning. Chasing Perfect is the kind of book you just want to curl up with in front of a cozy fire and settle in for a tale that will tug the heartstrings as you see the main characters’ scars heal as hope blossoms within them. Although one of the character’s future was unresolved, I am hopeful it will be addressed in the sequel.
