Product Description
This simple-to-know children’s tale and parenting guide is proposed for families where both parents plot to stay active and involved in their child’s life. “It’s Not Your Fault, KoKo Bear” revolves around a lovable bear who doesn’t want to have two homes. KoKo’s experience will help children learn what divorce means, how family tree life will change, and know that the divorce is not their fault. Full color Ages 3<-7. Pub: 1/98. .Amazon.com Review
How do you talk to your children about your divorce? How can you best handle their responses? Here’s a children’s book and parenting tool rolled into one. It’s Not Your Fault, Koko Bear is a picture book designed to be read by parents to their children. Koko Bear’s parents are getting a divorce, and Koko, a preschool-aged unisex bear, isn’t pleased about it. “I don’t like this divorce. I don’t want two homes,” Koko says. Koko Bear’s tale doesn’t minimize kids’ pain, but it doesn’t wallow in it either. The message is positive: children are reassured that their feelings are natural, that their parents still like and will care for them, and that the divorce is not their fault. At the bottom of each page, there are bullet points for parents that give information and advice about what the kids are going through, and the best way to handle each issue as it arises. (Ages 3 to 7 and parents)

All I Can Handle: Im No Mother Teresa: A Life Raising Three Daughters with Autism

Product Description
How one woman raises three daughters with autism, loses one at Disney World, stays married, has sex, bakes gluten-free, goes broke, and keeps her sense of humor. “Dr. Spock? Check. Penelope Ann Leach (remember her?)? Check. What to Expect When You’re Expecting? Check. I had a seven hundred dollar Bellini crib for God’s sake! I was perfect. And so was Mia when she was born . . .”

…and so starts Kim Stagliano’s electrifying and hilarious memoir of her family tree’s journey raising three daughters with autism. In these tales, Stagliano has joined the ranks of David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs with her incredible ability to lay everything on the table—from family tree, friends, and enemies to basement floods to birthdays to (possible) heroin addictions—eviscerating and celebrating the absurd. From her like of Howard Stern to her increasing activism in the autism community and exhaustive search for treatments that will help her daughters, she covers it all. Permanently candid, regularly touching, and sometimes heartbreaking, Kim Stagliano is a powerful new voice in comedic writing—her “Kimoir” (as she calls it) will be a must-read within the autism community and the literary world at large. 24 color photographs

Mars and Venus Starting Over

Product Description

Is it possible to find like again after a breakup, death, or divorce?

At the end of a relationship, it can sometimes feel like the end of the world. Hurt, loneliness, and bitterness are some emotions that exist due to a breakup, divorce, or the loss of a loved one. But with the help of this compassionate guide, Dr. John Gray expresses that you will survive and tells you how to find like again.

While the process of healing is similar with both sexes, there are distinct differences between the ways men and women heal their bruised hearts. In Mars and Venus Starting Over, Dr. Gray offers gender-point advice on how to:

  • Deal with pain
  • Find forgiveness
  • Learn the might to let go
  • Rebuild confidence
  • Rise to the challenge of finding fulfillment again

Filled with gentle guidance, healing practices, and compassionate wisdom, Mars and Venus Starting Over will help men and women explore the meaning of loss, find their way through the healing process, and learn the secret to moving on.

Amazon.com Review
A breakup, divorce, or loss of a loved one isn’t just the end of your relationship with that person. It’s a continuation of every feeling of abandonment you’ve ever suffered. It’s the loss of a system of praise you’d come to depend on. The struggle, as Gray points out in Starting Over, isn’t just to find a new partner, but to get over persons feelings of abandonment or loss or rage or whatever else gets dredged up by the end of a relationship.

Perhaps the book’s most crucial chapter posits that the best way to get over the loss of like is to focus on the “like” more than the “loss.” That may seem impossible, especially if the bum took off with your best friend, your life savings, and your Lyle Lovett CDs, but Gray didn’t get to be a household name because the advice in his Venus and Mars books doesn’t work. Remembering only the terrible parts, Gray says, leaves you with an vital part of your emotional being clogged to new business.

As for the Venus and Mars stuff, that comes in the second half of the book, when Gray looks at how men and women start new relationships from different points of view, with different priorities (a man might want to have fun with no strings attached; a woman might carry with her a lengthy list of supplies for her next partner, a list that excludes virtually all available men).

If you’ve never read Gray’s work before, you have to be prepared to check your cynicism at the door. This is earnest stuff, but it’s also based on decades of experience counseling clients. He’s not one of persons photogenic, nine-times-divorced shrinklets who’s telling you how to conduct your relationships lacking any real clue of what makes like last. This is the real package: nothing glib, nothing quick and simple, nothing you could’ve figured out from a “Like Is…” cartoon.
